{"id":62371,"date":"2020-09-08T19:45:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-08T16:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/nyc-sanitation-commissioner-blasts-de-blasio-in-resignation-letter-eyes-mayoral-run\/"},"modified":"2020-09-08T19:45:00","modified_gmt":"2020-09-08T16:45:00","slug":"nyc-sanitation-commissioner-blasts-de-blasio-in-resignation-letter-eyes-mayoral-run","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/nyc-sanitation-commissioner-blasts-de-blasio-in-resignation-letter-eyes-mayoral-run\/","title":{"rendered":"#NYC sanitation commissioner blasts de Blasio in resignation letter, eyes mayoral run"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;<strong>#NYC sanitation commissioner blasts de Blasio in resignation letter, eyes mayoral run<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<div>\n                        Eyeing her own bid for Gracie Mansion, Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia blasted Mayor Bill de Blasio over massive cuts to her department that she said endanger public health and safety as she quit the administration Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt a time when protecting public health is of the essence, cutting basic Sanitation services is unconscionable,\u201d Garcia wrote in her resignation letter, which was obtained by The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis budget crisis is incredibly severe, but I am dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ointed to see so much of the work we have done over the last six years being walked back,\u201d she added later. \u201cIf, as is often said, budgets are a statement of values, my values require me to resign in the face of these cuts, which will harm New Yorkers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cuts contained in the 2021 budget passed this summer forced the Sanitation Department to slash litter basket pickups by 60 percent in order to maintain current service levels for apartment buildings across the city.<\/p>\n<p>That $21 million cut has turned overflowing trash cans on street corners into a new staple of city life.<\/p>\n<p>And, Garcia disclosed that de Blasio\u2019s threatened 22,000 municipal layoffs would hit the Sanitation Department hard, axing 750 of New York\u2019s strongest. That would come on top of 400 uniformed positions left empty by attrition in the 2021 budget.<\/p>\n<p>All told, the Sanitation Department could enter the upcoming winter with staffing levels not seen since the massive 2010 Christmastime blizzard that crippled the Big Apple.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia\u2019s last day is Sept. 18.<\/p>\n<p>The letter seemed designed to put distance between Garcia and City Hall, where she has served as Hizzoner\u2019s \u2018Ms. Fix It\u2019 in times of crisis:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>She was brought in to stabilize the city\u2019s Housing Authority as it faced a potential federal takeover;<\/li>\n<li>Was named as the city\u2019s Lead Czar and tasked by de Blasio with developing a new campaign to combat childhood poisoning in the aftermath of NYCHA\u2019s lead scandal<\/li>\n<li>Turned around the city\u2019s floundering coronavirus food delivery program, which has now distributed 130 million meals since the pandemic\u2019s outbreak in late March<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Before that, she served as a top official at the Department of Environmental Protection during the Bloomberg administration, where she was credited with speeding the agency\u2019s response to complaints and street repair requests.<\/p>\n<p>Hizzoner had nothing but praise for his soon-to-depart trash chief at his daily press briefing Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKathryn\u2019s done a great job for this city,\u201d de Blasio told reporters. \u201cThe extraordinary work she\u2019s done on the pathway to eradicate lead paint poising in this city once and for all she did great work helping us with the Housing Authority and, obviously, more work recently to make sure every New Yorker got food.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cSo, really appreciate her great efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If she does jump into the 2021 mayoral race, Garcia would be a late entry into an increasingly crowded field \u2014 and would have to build a campaign quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Comptroller Scott Stringer, a veteran of Manhattan Democratic politics, formally announced his own campaign Tuesday at a press conference in Washington Heights, where he grew up.<\/p>\n<p>Stringer has already raised $2.8 million for 2021 though he had not formally declared in campaign finance filings he was running for mayor.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" id=\":13m.co\">\u201cThe fact is, we never closed the book on the tale of two cities,\u201d said Stringer at the press conference, taking a shot at de Blasio by referencing one of Hizzoner\u2019s key themes from his first campaign in 2013. \u201cIf anything, over the last eight years, we\u2019ve written more chapters.\u201d<br \/><\/br><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Stringer promised to \u201cbring leadership back to City Hall,\u201d while saying he would campaign for New Yorkers to return while asking them to pay higher taxes to prevent massive service cuts.<\/p>\n<p>However, most new taxes would require approval from state lawmakers in Albany.<\/p>\n<p>The Tuesday press conference also provided a case-study in Stringer\u2019s attempts to position himself to the left, as he decried what he called the \u201cgentrification industrial complex\u201d after taking more than $1 million in money from real estate interests.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16261934\"><img alt=\"Bill de Blasio and Kathryn Garcia\" data- data- height=\"441\" width=\"662\"><\/img><figcaption><span>Bill de Blasio and Kathryn Garcia<\/span><span>Natan Dvir<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Stringer\u2019s fundraising prowess and deep ties to Manhattan\u2019s high-turnout political operations instantly make him a top-tier contender in the June 2021 Democratic primary race.<\/p>\n<p>Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Stringer\u2019s competition for the Democratic nomination appeared to mainly come from two other candidates \u2014 Council Speaker Corey Johnson, who has raised nearly $900,000; and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, who has already raised $2.6 million.<\/p>\n<p>But since the devastating coronavirus pandemic, the field has grown larger.<\/p>\n<p>Maya Wiley \u2014 a former top de Blasio adviser and civil rights attorney,\u00a0 who has built her public profile with a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp;
