\n Joe Biden\u2019s former White House stenographer said the Democratic presidential nominee has \u201clost a step\u201d and isn\u2019t as mentally sharp as he was four years ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a complete difference from what he was in 2017,\u201d Mike McCormick, who worked with the former vice president from 2011 to 2017, told the Washington Free Beacon. \u201cHe\u2019s lost a step and he doesn\u2019t seem to have the same mental acuity as he did four years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe doesn\u2019t have the energy, he doesn\u2019t have the pace of his speaking. He\u2019s a different guy,\u201d McCormick said about 77-year-old Biden in the interview published Tuesday.<\/p>\n

McCormick, whose book \u201cJoe Biden Unauthorized\u201d chronicles his time in the White House, told the publication that Biden had a talent for clicking with audiences and would often go off-script<\/a>, something the nominee doesn\u2019t do anymore.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019d just make a big joke out of it, and go straight from the hip. And notice, he\u2019s not doing that anymore. He read that [Democratic National Committee speech] verbatim \u2026 it\u2019s not Joe Biden anymore,\u201d McCormick said, noting he looks \u201clost\u201d during interviews now.<\/p>\n

The Beacon notes how Biden has been sticking to his teleprompter so closely that he reads cues noted in his scripts out loud.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn recent interviews, Biden seems to have been reading directly from a teleprompter when answering questions, including instructions from his staff, such as \u2018END QUOTE\u2019 and \u2018TOPLINE MESSAGE.’\u201d<\/p>\n

President Trump has made Biden\u2019s mental capabilities a part of his campaign, knocking his Democratic challenger as somebody who fumbles through speeches and loses his train of thought in interviews.<\/p>\n

The president tweeted about Biden on Tuesday morning, noting how he\u2019s been more active on the campaign trail since polls have begun tightening in key states.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreat! Biden is finally being forced out of his basement. Now you\u2019ll be able to see what is going on \u2018up there\u2019. He may do some \u2018limited\u2019 campaigning. Basement Biden is no longer playing well in the Polls!,\u201d Trump said in the posting.<\/p>\n

In his book, McCormick describes a joint press conference between Biden and Vladimir Putin when the Russian leader had Biden\u2019s microphone suddenly shut off \u2014 an incident he said was never reported by the news<\/a> media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Putin\u2019s] message was unmistakable: I\u2019m in charge of the room, I\u2019m in charge of my country, and I\u2019m in charge of the reset,\u201d McCormick wrote. \u201cAs you might imagine, the vice president\u2019s staffers were furious with the Russians. I was instructed to have the transcript reflect how the vice president had been cut off in mid-sentence.\u201d<\/p>\n

The official White House transcript of the March 2011 encounter shows Biden\u2019s comments ending suddenly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a reason. Mr. Prime Minister, I\u2019ve been around a long time. The first time I was here \u2014 the second time I was here, I was here meeting with President Brezhnev. We were trying to pass SALT II \u2013,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe basically got body slammed by Putin, really. I mean, I don\u2019t know how else to describe it,\u201d McCormick told the Free Beacon. \u201cTo me it was like, here\u2019s our great foreign policy expert and he just got punk\u2019d. And Vladimir Putin just had no fear or respect for him.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
