\n Washington and Lee University is coming under scrutiny for offering a course on \u201cHow to Overthrow the State,\u201d though the school\u2019s president says the course has been \u201csensationalized\u201d by the media<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Officially titled \u201cWriting Seminar for First-Years,\u201d the course places students \u201cat the head of a popular revolutionary movement aiming to overthrow a sitting government and forge a better society.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHow will you attain power? How will you communicate with the masses? How do you plan on improving the lives of the people? How will you deal with the past?\u201d the descript<\/a>ion states. \u201cFrom Frantz Fanon to Che Guevara to Mohandas Gandhi and others, we explore examples of revolutionary thought and action from across the Global South,\u201d reads the course description on WLU\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

Students who take the course will produce a \u201cManifesto, drafting a white paper that critically analyzes a particular issue\u201d and \u201cwrite a persuasive essay on rewriting history and confronting memory.\u201d<\/p>\n

Washington and Lee University\u2019s course on \u201chow to overthrow the state\u201d is one further sign of the insanity taking over higher education. The alumni should rise up and show how to overthrow a crazy college administration.<\/p>\n

Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives Newt Gingrich slammed the course as \u201cone further sign of the insanity taking over higher education.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fox News has reached to WLU for comment.<\/p>\n

In an interview with a local news outlet, WLU President Will Dudley said the course has been \u201cdistorted, sensationalized and turned into political fodder on blogs, television and social media.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are expressly committed to encouraging all to speak their minds freely and to consider carefully alternative points of view.
