omnipresent hot pink last summer, it&#8217;s now been taken over by <i>brat<\/i> green. While Greta Gerwig\u2019s blockbuster playfully explored the plight of \u201cgirlhood\u201d through the importance of friendship through fuschia-tinted glasses, Charli XCX\u2019s taken an even more attention-catching <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roach to the concept with her new album, <i>brat<\/i>, which is just as abrasive and confrontational as its bold lime cover. <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            While &#8220;Barbie pink&#8221; is a traditional signifier of conventional femininity, <i>brat <\/i> green is visually harsh and almost unsightly, forcing us to reflect on the uncomfortable, less shiny parts of navigating female friendships and relationships. The album is similar in the sense that it&#8217;s an unapologetic, introspective wormhole, where Charli attempts to fundamentally understand herself as a person. At the same time, she feels obligated to project a confidence that&#8217;s in direct contradiction to her own anxieties and insecurities, even though she feels frustration towards another female musician that she&#8217;s often compared to. And while admitting that her admiration gets warped by envy and jealousy, Charli openly wonders if they&#8217;re only \u201cfriends,\u201d because they feel like they have to be. But this external pressure means it\u2019s easy for the public to forget they have agency over their own interpersonal relationships, while also facing the same hardships of simply being a person.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-262308\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Fans im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely started speculating on who Charli was referring to, tossing out names like Rina Sawayama and Marina Diamandis. Others guessed that it was Lorde and wondered whether it was a diss track. Is she <i>pitting women against each other<\/i>? Because there&#8217;s a \u201cspecial place in hell\u201d for that, you know. At its core though, it&#8217;s more an acceptance of how our inner battles can be projected onto someone that we desperately want to see as our equal. Both Charli and Lorde established themselves as pop artists when they were teenagers; they were forced to come of age not only in public, but at the same time as their most devoted listeners. Both also make \u201cedgy\u201d alt-pop that&#8217;s found an audience within a crowd of introverted, lonely outsiders, who felt uncomfortable in the mainstream. They have a storied history with one another, as friends and occasional colleagues, like when Charli contributed to the soundtrack Lorde curated for the <i>Hunger <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Game<\/a>s<\/i> or joked about being mistaken for Lorde. Both have struggled with parasocial fandoms, who seemingly wanted Lorde and Charli to be best friends forever, xoxoxo! And so did everyone else \u2014 except Lorde and Charli. So what happens when that illusion is broken?<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-262309\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Lorde immediately posted a congratulatory Instagram Story about <i>brat<\/i> the day it came out and was spotted at Charli\u2019s <i>Brooklyn<\/i> show a few days later, vibing out to \u201cgirl, so confusing.\u201d Was she aware of the \u201cdiss track\u201d? Was this her way of acknowledging the song? Is she only at the show to put the beef rumors to rest? To deny them? Nope. Because they\u2019re adults who didn\u2019t just put it to rest by working it out on the remix.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cThe girl, so confusing version with lorde\u201d is Kendrick vs. Drake for people who do ketamine at Mood Ring. The internet was sent ablaze. There was screaming, crying. People fainted. She is devastatingly honest about her body issues causing her own self-hatred, determined to isolate herself while still envying Charli\u2019s \u201ccool party girl\u201d persona, not realizing how her self-conscious isolation came off as cold and aloof. \u201c\u2018Girl, you walk like a bitch,\u2019 when I was ten, someone said that \/ And it\u2019s just self-defense until you&#8217;re building a weapon \/ She believed my projection,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/charli_xcx\/status\/1804142184741892525\">Lorde admits<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>            Working together in such an honest way is the perfect encapsulation of the <i>brat<\/i> mindset, with the two now being able to understand each other. By being vulnerable, they\u2019re breaking down their exterior walls and coming to understand that they may be industry \u201ccompetitors,\u201d but not rivals.
