Most likely. For now. Equally likely to roll out someday soon.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s all take a collective pause and take a deep breath. It\u2019s all gonna be OK.<\/p>\n<p>For all SEO has changed over the past two decades, it actually hasn\u2019t changed all that much.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s why and how to forge ahead in the meantime.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-search-cannibalization-has-already-been-happening-for-years-ai-overviews-just-continue-that-trend\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Search_cannibalization_has_already_been_happening_for_years_%E2%80%93_AI_Overviews_just_continue_that_trend\"><\/span>Search cannibalization has already been happening for years \u2013 AI Overviews just continue that trend<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>On the one hand, AI Overviews will create new \u201closers,\u201d cannibalizing search traffic for certain sites and specific query types.<\/p>\n<p>But on the other, this is nothing new.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019d argue it\u2019s more of an evolution of what\u2019s already been h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ening under the surface for many, many years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You see, savvy SEOs have been picking up the \u201czero-click SERP\u201d phenomenon <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/blog\/zero-result-serps\">since at least 2018<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That only accelerated through 2019, into 2022 and today.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Where AI Overviews are poised to continue displaying automated listings, instant answers and new SERP layouts \u2013 all at the expense of the traditional \u201cfree\u201d organic 10 blue links.<\/p>\n<p>But all of this predates even 2018.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Google\u2019s Knowledge Graph already \u201canswered roughly one-third of the 100-billion monthly searches\u201d dating back to mid-2016. And that number ballooned to 500 billion facts by 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Google any black-and-white, concrete query like \u201cEuropean date format\u201d and a searcher sees the actual answer (scraped from the underlying content) within seconds.<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1089\" alt=\"Google - Surprise!<\/p>\n<p>So, if you were actually doing good SEO to begin with \u2013 not just publishing AI crap in the last 12 months and expecting instant results \u2013 it\u2019s largely business as usual.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, here\u2019s where you start.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tip-1-prioritize-keywords-and-topics-based-on-potential-roi-over-the-next-6-12-and-18-months\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tip_1_Prioritize_keywords_and_topics_based_on_potential_ROI_over_the_next_6_12_and_18_months\"><\/span>Tip 1: Prioritize keywords and topics based on potential ROI over the next 6, 12 and 18+ months<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Everyone has access to keyword data. That\u2019s not the issue.<\/p>\n<p>The problem in SEO since Day 1 has always been what you DO with said data.<\/p>\n<p>How you interpret it, how you analyze it and how you make decisions based on it.<\/p>\n<p>This is only more true in a world of AI Overviews continuing to cannibalize top-of-funnel queries.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s why generic data-vomiting keyword research strategies have always been doomed to fail from the start.<\/p>\n<p>Especially now.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, take a look at \u201cinternational SEO.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is a big, juicy keyword that gets nerdy marketers\u2019 hearts aflutter.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And yet? What most miss is that \u201cKeyword Difficulty\u201d is biased in most, if not all, tools. Or that surprising frankly.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Because it\u2019s simply the continued acceleration of pre-existing trends that have already been occurring since at least 2016.<\/p>\n<p>So yes, AI Overviews will continue to erode TOFU topics. But, that\u2019s not where the real money is, anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, double down on prioritizing the right keywords at the right time, focusing on queries that bring buyers and not eyeballs, re-creating the typical buyer\u2019s journey for how people shop for your stuff anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Then, just focus on beating what\u2019s in front of you.<\/p>\n<p>It may not be the sexiest strategy.
