\n Ruben \u00d6stlund\u00a0knows it sounds \u201cabsurd\u201d to complain about winning awards, however, he admits that they add another level of \u201cpressure\u201d for filmmakers.<\/p>\n

\n During a recent conversation with Mother Couch<\/em> writer-director Niclas Larsson for Interview<\/em>\u00a0magazine<\/a>, the Triangle of Sadness <\/em>director was asked if \u201cawards create self-confidence or make you more insecure?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt makes you more insecure, I would say,\u201d \u00d6stlund responded. \u201cFor me it was a hundred percent like this. Winning one Golden Palm put more pressure on me, but winning two Golden Palms took away a lot of pressure because that means I wasn\u2019t a one hit wonder. But then also I need pressure in order to perform.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n He continued, \u201cSo that\u2019s why the goal with the next\u00a0film\u00a0is to win another Golden Palm. It\u2019s going to be the first time in the history of filmmaking that a director wins three Golden Palms in a row.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u00d6stlund won his first Palme for The Square<\/em> in 2017 and then again in 2022 for Triangle of Sadness<\/em>. Though he noted that \u201cit\u2019s completely absurd to say these things,\u201d the filmmaker also recognizes that \u201cpressure\u201d can help propel people toward their goals.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cFor me, the goal is to create a bar that is pushed up and to create a goal,\u201d \u00d6stlund explained. \u201cI think a lot of people consider me very cocky in a way, but for me, you say it because it creates something that makes it possible to push something.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n The Oscar-nominated director added earlier in the conversation, \u201cI think also true creative confidence and managing to achieve something and working with feature films and travel<\/a>ing the world and meeting people also developed my self-confidence. So it\u2019s something about getting confidence in a profession and then through that, experiencing the world and being put up in different social<\/a> situations that makes you even more confident.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u00d6stlund has also earned two Oscar nominations for Triangle of Sadness<\/em>, including best directing and best original screenplay. The film also scored a best picture nod, while The Square<\/em> received a best foreign language film\u00a0nom.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
