The anime<\/a> film adaptation of\u00a0Tatsuki Fujimoto<\/strong>\u2018s Look Back<\/em> one-shot is the first-ranked movie on the July 5-7 Japanese weekend box office ranking. It previously ended its debut weekend in second place.<\/span><\/p>\n

Kogyo Tsushin reports<\/a> that Look Back<\/em> drew in 129.9 thousand moviegoers and earned 222 million yen (~US$1.37 million) over the past weekend. In total, it has attracted 360 thousand viewers and made 600 million yen (~US$3.71 million).<\/span><\/p>\n

The movie, which has a roughly one-hour runtime, originally opened in 119 locations nationwide. The movie is now screening in 131 locations, which, as Movie Walker Press notes<\/a>, is still not a large number (for instance, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Freedom<\/em> was shown at 354 cinemas, including 4X and Dolby Cinema screenings).<\/span><\/p>\n

The other anime films on the weekend ranking are Sore Ike! Anpanman Baikinman to Ehon no Lulun <\/em>(last weekend\u2019s top-placed title) at 2nd, Detective Conan: The Million-dollar Pentagram<\/em> at 6th, Code Geass: Roz\u00e9 of the Recapture<\/em> Act 3 at 7th, and Umamusume: Beginning of a New Era<\/em> at 10th.<\/span><\/p>\n

Look Back<\/em> premiered in Japan on June 28 and is set to receive a Southeast Asian release. It was featured in Annecy Festival 2024\u2019s Annecy Presents selection lineup.<\/span><\/p>\n

Manga Plus describes the one-shot, which was released in July 2021 and published by Shueisha, as:<\/span><\/p>\n

Fujino is a fourth grader who draws a manga strip<\/a> for the school news<\/a>paper. Her art makes her the star of the class, but one day she\u2019s told that Kyomoto, a student who refuses to come to school, would also like to submit a manga for the paper\u2026<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
