KADOKAWA<\/strong> has announced its acquisition of the stocks of animation production studio Doga Kobo<\/strong>, which will become a subsidiary of the entertainment giant.<\/span><\/p>\n

The background for the move is KADOKAWA\u2019s medium-term plan, which will last until March 2028 and involves the core strategy of steadily creating IP and advancing its Global, Media<\/a> Mix with Technology<\/a> initiative, which is centered around global expansion. KADOKAWA\u2019s press release also mentions its animation business strategy of expanding production lines and strengthening production capabilities to enable the continuous creation of anime<\/a>, with the aim of maximizing the value of IP that are centered around the medium.<\/span><\/p>\n

KADOKAWA added that Doga Kobo has a good track record, as well as good relations with KADOKAWA that began around 10 years ago with the Monthly Girl\u2019s Nozaki-kun<\/em> and New Game<\/a>!<\/em> anime. It also pointed out the popularity of the OSHI NO KO <\/em>adaptation both domestically and abroad.<\/span><\/p>\n

KADOKAWA plans to have cooperation between Doga Kobo and its other KADOKAWA Group anime studios \u2014 the subsidiaries ENGI<\/strong>, Studio KADAN<\/strong>, Raging Bull<\/strong>, and Bellnox Films<\/strong>, as well as the affiliated Kinema Citrus<\/strong> \u2014 to strengthen its anime production structure.<\/span><\/p>\n

Doga Kobo was founded in 1973 by Hideo Furusawa<\/strong>, a comic artist and animator who\u2019d participated in the establishment of studios like Shin Nippon Doga<\/strong> and Toei Doga<\/strong>, with Megumu Ishiguro <\/strong>as president. It spent its first few decades as a support studio, with the studio\u2019s website listing its involvement in titles like Nausica\u00e4 of the Valley of the Wind<\/i>, Spirited Away<\/em>, and Dragon Ball<\/em>. The first anime that it produced as the main contractor was the 2005 movie Kahe no Umi<\/em>, while its first TV anime was 2007\u2019s Myself;Yourself<\/em>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the years, Doga Kobo has produced shows like Koihime Musou<\/em>, 11eyes<\/em>, Yuru Yuri<\/em> Season 1 and 2, Natsuyuki Rendezvous<\/em>, Love Lab<\/em>, GJ-bu<\/em>, Himouto!\u00a0Umaru<\/em>\u2013chan<\/em>, Aria the Scarlet Ammo<\/em> AA<\/em>, Gabriel Dropout<\/em>, Tada Never Falls in Love<\/em>, UzaMaid!<\/em>, How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?<\/i>, The Helpful Fox Senko-san<\/em>, and Wataten!: An Angel Flew Down to M<\/em>e.<\/span><\/p>\n

Doga Kobo\u2019s 2020s output includes Sing Yesterday for Me<\/em>, Asteroid in Love<\/em>, Selection Project<\/em>, My\u00a0Senpai\u00a0Is<\/em>\u00a0Annoying<\/em>, Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won\u2019t Lose<\/em>, Touken<\/em>\u00a0Ranbu<\/em>:\u00a0Hanamaru<\/em>, Shikimori\u2019s Not Just A Cutie<\/em>, RPG<\/em> Real Estate<\/em>, OSHI NO KO<\/em>, Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence<\/em>, Jellyfish Can\u2019t Swim in the Night<\/em>, and Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The current Doga Kobo president, Ryo Ishiguro<\/strong>, assumed the position in 2006.<\/span><\/p>\n
