The line stretches around the block, and when security finally starts letting people in, the crowd throngs to the back of the venue. The first waves fill every last square inch of the half pipe where the show will take place. Dozens more spill in behind, squeezing into the adjacent the concrete area.<\/p>\n<p>            Hosted by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color:#d3d3d3\" href=\"https:\/\/nobells.blog\/category\/interviews\/\">No Bells<\/a>, the event is a celebration of <i>A Dog\u2019s Chance<\/i>, the irresistible debut collaborative album from POLO PERKS , FearDorian, and AyooLii. It\u2019s an all-ages affair, so water is the main beverage on hand, and the blog\u2019s proprietors dart around the room handing out bottles of the stuff to ensure mass hydration.<\/p>\n<p>            \u201cIt was a million degrees,\u201d Polo remembers days later between sips from a comically large bottle of Martinelli\u2019s apple juice. \u201cIt felt like we were in hell, bro,\u201d Dorian adds. Seattle MC <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color:#d3d3d3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/cr1tter.n3t\/\">cr1tter<\/a> and ascendant Bronx native Baby Osama kick the party into a delirium that\u2019s taken to another level by quinn; the titanic DMV shapeshifter conducts the crowd into a moshing frenzy, a many-headed beast that shouts her lyrics bar for bar, wrestling the PA system for primacy.<\/p>\n<p>            By the time Polo, Dorian, and Lii take over, every last human in the building is drenched and keyed up, pushing and shoving in front of the triumvirate like a sugar-high amoeba. The album\u2019s title is an alternate idiom for a one-in-a-million shot, reflecting a record that sprouted from the type of hybrid online\/IRL miracle that only makes sense in a post-pandemic context. <\/p>\n<p>            All three artists found each other on the internet: Dorian has been a fan of Polo since the late 2010s, when he began to gather clout as a core member of Surf Gang; Polo was acquainted with Dorian\u2019s work around the same time, while the younger artist was going viral as a dancer on the TikTok precursor Triller. Their first in-person meeting almost happened in 2020, when Dorian tried to attend an ill-advised COVID show Polo was playing in Atlanta. <\/p>\n<p>            \u201cI was probably like 13, pulling up to that,\u201d Dorian remembers. \u201cMy mom drove me, and we were looking for it for a minute; we just couldn\u2019t find the place. He\u2019d left his native Brooklyn, in part, to remove himself from the BedStuy blocks where he came of age, another zone he calls \u201cthe trenches.\u201d Down south, he\u2019s enjoyed a new level of financial freedom that\u2019s allowed him to buy his own house, distance himself from New York\u2019s constant clout chase and the pressures of a label contract, make music for fun again.<\/p>\n<p>            \u201cI ended up just sliding up to his crib, and we started working literally every day,\u201d Dorian says. The <i>Dog\u2019s Chance<\/i> sessions began shortly thereafter.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-262620\" class=\"content_block diptych triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper half_gutter_right gutter_btm\">\n<p>  <img decoding=\"async\" <i>Dog\u2019s Chance<\/i> tracks \u2014 Dorian is a producer to the core. In just his first few active years, he\u2019s offered his prodigious talents to countless digital rap darlings; his collaborators have ranged from d0llywood1 to Duwap Kaine, dazegxd to xaviersobased, and midwxst to Moh Baretta. <\/p>\n<p>            Even beyond his seemingly boundless beatmaking capacities, he\u2019s a producer in the classical sense: connecting disparate sectors of his now-vast network, cross-pollinating the scenes he wants to see in the world, and, in the most <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> sense, making shit happen. \u201cOne of my purposes in making music is to be a bridge between everything and everyone I\u2019m interested in,\u201d he says. <\/p>\n<p>            \u201cDorian showed me how many amazing artists have connections to me or were influenced by me,\u201d Polo adds. \u201cWhen he put me on to quinn, I was like, \u2018There\u2019s not gonna be music like this for 40 years. Take \u201cRainbow,\u201d whose central sample rivals \u201cPaper Planes\u201d for the most unmissable Easter egg on the album: <\/p>\n<p>            \u201cI was like, \u2018Don\u2019t make me do this, bro,\u2019\u201d Dorian says. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018You\u2019re doing it,\u201d Polo interjects. \u201cIt was one of those beats that gave him an aneurysm to make. I had to be over his shoulder, like, \u2018You\u2019re not leaving the room.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            \u201cIt really takes him rapping on it for me to see the vision sometimes,\u201d Dorian continues. \u201cSometimes I be buggin\u2019 a little, but it always comes out fire in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            If Dorian has found a mentor and champion in Polo, Polo has found in Dorian something far more than an acolyte. \u201cHe\u2019s smart as hell and so educated on music \u2014 more educated than anybody in his time frame,\u201d Polo says, beaming like a proud older brother.<\/p>\n<p>            Dorian is always open to trying Polo\u2019s bold and eccentric sample ideas, Polo says, more so than even the most forward-thinking producers he\u2019s worked with in the past. Dorian produces like he\u2019s from 10 different cities, always touching base with local artists to make sure he\u2019s approaching their sound with proper respect before applying his signature touches. Lately, he\u2019s been obsessed with the handclap-driven Milwaukee lowend sound, arising from an explosive scene that\u2019s caused tremors outside the region thanks to the likes of Chicken P, J.P., Myaap, Maz G, Certified Trapper, and Lii \u2014 a punchline machine who has quickly become a lightning rod for his city.<\/p>\n<p>            \u201cI met Lii because\u2026\u201d Dorian starts. \u201c\u2019Cause I was going crazy,\u201d Lii finishes, flashing a goofy smile containing a full set of gold grills. The creative process took on a fever dream quality during this time, revolving around each artist\u2019s distinct proclivities and sleep cycles. \u201cI don\u2019t think me and Polo ever did sessions where we were both like, \u2018I\u2019m finna do this right now,\u2019\u201d Lii remembers. \u201cIt was more like, \u2018He\u2019s in the mode, I\u2019m sleepy as fuck, so he\u2019ll go knock it out and then I\u2019ll wake up and do my thing.\u2019 It was on some whenever-we-feel-like-it-type shit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            The sole exception to this approach, Polo clarifies, is \u201cPaperPlanesSoulja,\u201d one of only four songs in which Polo and Lii share the spotlight. \u201cI think he was smoking a blunt on the balcony, and when he came back, I was like, \u2018Bro, get on this,\u2019 Polo remembers. \u201cHe didn\u2019t even hear the beat or nothing. Outside the venue afterward, the consensus is indisputable: Events that draw crowds as simultaneously online, diverse (in age, gender, race, and style), and enthusiastic as the show we\u2019ve just witnessed are one in a million.<\/p>\n<p>            Even as the summer heat encroaches on The FADER\u2019s office the following week and tech difficulties cause the interview to drag, Dorian, Polo, and Lii still seem to be enjoying each other\u2019s company \u2014 sharing inside jokes, cracking up to videos on Lii\u2019s phones, playfully shit-talking <i>XXL<\/i>\u2018s newly released freshman class (but paying respect to Cash Cobain). <\/p>\n<p>            When I ask, prompted by their publicist, if they\u2019re working on <i>A Dog\u2019s Chance<\/i>\u2019s sequel, they snap into a choreographed gag they\u2019ve now repeated in several interviews: \u201cFuck no,\u201d Dorian and Lii reply, almost in unison. \u201cWe\u2019re all falling out after this PR run,\u201d Polo adds automatically. \u201cWe\u2019re beefing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            Other than this brief, harmless moment of feigned animosity, though, nothing about their chaotic, carefree routine seems rehearsed or contrived.
