Welcome to this week in\u00a0<strong>Home Video<\/strong> for September 8th, 2020 including our pick of the week, The Alfred Hitchcock Classics Collection in 4K UltraHD!<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<div> This week\u2019s home video selection includes Kelly Reichardt\u2019s acclaimed <em>First Cow<\/em>, a 4K release of the classic <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/anime-manga\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"6\" title=\"Anime || Manga\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anime<\/a> <em>Ghost in the Shell<\/em>, Rob Zombie\u2019s \u201cwhite trash\u201d trilogy, and more. Check out our picks below.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<\/hr>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pick_of_the_Week\"><\/span>Pick of the Week<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Alfred_Hitchcock_Collection_4K_UltraHD\"><\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Hitchcock 4K\" height=\"236\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/hitchcock-4k.jpg\" width=\"195\"><\/img>The Alfred Hitchcock Collection [4K UltraHD]<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is it?<\/strong> Four of the suspense master\u2019s classics in 4K!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why see it?<\/strong> A couple of things right up front\u2026 yes, the discs are housed in those cardboard sleeves that so many of you hate, and yes, the <em>Psycho<\/em> disc is missing the original mono audio track despite it being listed as an option. If either of those is a deal-breaker, then just keep moving. Still here? Good, because this is a beautiful and very welcome release from Universal. Only <em>Psycho<\/em> is available in a standalone 4K release (and it looks very good here in both its theatrical and \u201cuncut\u201d versions), so these other three are new and well worth the pickup for fans.<\/p>\n<p><em>Vertigo<\/em> is probably the one most people will jump to in this new Alfred Hitchcock 4K collection, and to my eyes, the upgrade is vibrant while retaining the film\u2019s original grain. It remains a film that cherishes the visuals, and it looks fantastic. <em>The Birds<\/em>, while a favorite Hitchcock of mine, is still hampered by those optical effects, but beyond that recurring issue, the upgrade delivers. You wouldn\u2019t expect it necessarily, but it\u2019s <em>Rear Window<\/em> that seems to benefit the most from the 4K upgrade. So much of the film unfolds in a single locale, but there\u2019s a sharpness to the imagery that doesn\u2019t interfere with grain resulting in a noticeable step up at times.<\/p>\n<p>[Extras: Uncut version of <em>Psycho<\/em>, commentaries, interviews, featurettes]<\/p>\n<hr>\n<\/hr>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Best\"><\/span>The Best<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First_Cow\"><\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"First Cow\" height=\"234\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/first-cow.jpg\" width=\"195\"><\/img>First Cow<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is it?<\/strong> Two men and a cow form a successful start-up.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why see it?<\/strong> Kelly Reichardt\u2019s films are always beautiful and show a passion for individuals making their way in an unforgiving world. <em>First Cow<\/em> is no different, with its early 19th-century tale of outcasts, friendship, and ingenuity. There are sweetness and respect to it all, and while there are also harsh truths throughout it\u2019s the affection for character that shines through. The film tells its own tale, but it works (as intended) as an allegory of sorts for America and the dream that so many here have that can\u2019t quite be accomplished.<\/p>\n<p>[Extras: Featurette]<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ghost_in_the_Shell_4K_UltraHD\"><\/span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Ghost In The Shell 4K\" height=\"243\" src=\"https:\/\/filmschoolrejects.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/ghost-in-the-shell-4k-1.jpg\" width=\"195\"><\/img>Ghost in the Shell [4K UltraHD]<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is it?<\/strong> A cop with upgrades chases a crook with more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why see it?<\/strong> Mamoru Oshii\u2019s anime classic remains a visual stunner that also deliver action thrills and thought-provoking writing. It\u2019s obviously superior to the live-action feature from a few years ago (which is admittedly okay on its own merits), and it holds up as a film worthy of multiple re-watches thanks in large part to its visuals. The animation pops as expected in 4K with the HDR delivering bright colors that give the action and characters even more life.<\/p>\n<p>[Extras: Commentary, featurettes]<\/p>\n<hr>\n<\/hr>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Rest\"><\/span>The Rest<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Evil_Boy\"><\/span>Evil Boy<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is it?<\/strong> Grieving parents adopt a monster.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why see it?<\/strong> This Russian chiller starts a bit rough with some choppy montage bringing viewers up to speed, and it\u2019s a struggle from there forward. The child\/creature is visibly a monster, but the couple treats it humanely to their detriment. We get some fun effects beats here and there, but there\u2019s also some atrocious CG animation that looks like they\u2019re using early 2000s graphics software. If you can get past that there are minor thrills to be had as the kid is a scr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er and a scrambler making for some fast-moving beats.<\/p>\n<p>[Extras: None]<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Kentucky_Kernels_Warner_Archive\"><\/span>Kentucky Kernels [Warner Archive]<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is it?<\/strong> A pair of scammers \u201cadopt\u201d a wealthy child.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why see it?<\/strong> Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey are a beloved pair in some circles despite never gaining the kind of fame associated with other on-screen duos. This entry drops Spanky from The Little Rascals into the mix, and he livens things up nicely. His childish antics work well with the film\u2019s overall slapstick vibe to deliver some laughs and smiles.<\/p>\n<p>[Extras: None]<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Retaliation\"><\/span>Retaliation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is it?<\/strong> A man\u2019s life crumbles when he sees his childhood abuser again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why see it?<\/strong> Ignore the title change \u2014 it\u2019s called <em>Romans<\/em> elsewhere \u2014 and the cover art suggesting a violent tale of revenge as this is nothing of the sort. It is a rough drama, though, featuring perhaps the best performance of Orlando Bloom\u2019s career so far. The abuser is a priest (surprise!), and the film explores ideas of guilt, forgiveness, and the Old Testament\u2019s \u201ceye for an eye\u201d message. The ending is a reach and doesn\u2019t satisfy the way the filmmakers might hope, but Bloom deserves credit for a strong and brave performance all the same.<\/p>\n<p>[Extras: Commentary, featurette]<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Rob_Zombie_Trilogy_Target_Steelbook_Exclusive\"><\/span>Rob Zombie Trilogy [Target Steelbook Exclusive]<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is it?<\/strong> <em>House of 1000 Corpses<\/em>, <em>The Devil\u2019s Rejects<\/em>, and <em>3 From Hell<\/em>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why see it?<\/strong> <em>Lords of Salem<\/em> is the only Rob Zombie film I actually enjoy, so I won\u2019t be singing the praises of these three today. Anti-heroes need a line of some sort, but Zombie\u2019s embrace of these characters and treatment of them as bad guys we\u2019re meant to love just doesn\u2019t work. It certainly doesn\u2019t help that Sheri Moon Zombie isn\u2019t a good actor, but the films have far bigger problems. The extras are where it\u2019s at, though, as Zombie remains an incredibly engaging speaker. The highlight of the set is this stylish new steelbook with its stellar artwork.<\/p>\n<p>[Extras: Commentaries, featurettes, interviews]<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Supergirl_%E2%80%93_The_Complete_Fifth_Season\"><\/span>Supergirl \u2013 The Complete Fifth Season<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>What is it?<\/strong> Supergirl still isn\u2019t Superwoman for some reason.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why see it?<\/strong> As mentioned repeatedly in this column, DC owns the small screen with its myriad collection of hit shows. They may still be stumbling theatrically, but they\u2019ve got the TV <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> down. This <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> stands out as one with a female hero lead, and Melissa Benoist does good work balancing the character\u2019s split while avoiding the \u201csuper\u201d curse of feeling too bland.
