Could the U.S. government  force a sale of Chrome, Android or Ads?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"bialty-container\">\nThe U.S. Justice Department\u00a0is reportedly considering forcing parent company Alphabet to shed at least one of its units. Among the possibilities being explored following a judge\u2019s ruling that Google violated antitrust laws, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/ip-law\/doj-mulls-asking-for-google-breakup-after-landmark-antitrust-win\">Bloomberg<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chrome, Google\u2019s web browser. This one seems highly unlikely \u2013\u00a0web browsers aren\u2019t exactly a lucrative business model.<\/li>\n<li>Android, Google\u2019s operating system. <\/li>\n<li>Google Ads, the money-printing machine that generates billions of search and advertising dollars every quarter. (Although Bloomberg called it \u201cAdWords.\u201d They clearly didn\u2019t get the memo that AdWords ceased to exist in 2018).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Why we care.<\/strong> While a breakup of Alphabet\u2019s Google seems highly unlikely right now (Microsoft ultimately avoided a similar fate nearly 25 years ago despite a similar antitrust ruling), nothing is impossible. If Google is broken up, it will undoubtedly impact all search marketers. How much it will impact your SEO and ad strategies will be the big question, but let\u2019s not get ahead of ourselves just yet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other options. <\/strong>The U.S. is also considering some \u201cless severe options\u201d:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prohibiting Google from forging default search agreements, like the $19 billion it paid <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>le.<\/li>\n<li>Forcing Google to share more data with competitors. <\/li>\n<li>Somehow limiting Google from gaining an \u201cunfair advantage in AI products.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What about <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">YouTube<\/a>?<\/strong> One Alphabet unit not mentioned in the report was YouTube.
