Rivals<\/em> is headed to Hulu this fall. The streaming service announced a premiere date for the new series<\/a> based on Dame Jilly Cooper\u2019s Rutshire Chronicles<\/em> novels. Eight episodes have been filmed for the series.<\/p>\n

Alex Hassell, David Tennant, Aidan Turner, Nafessa Williams, Katherine Parkinson, and Bella Maclean star in this series set in 1986 in England, in the world of independent television. Emily Atack, Catriona Chandler, Oliver Chris, Danny Dyer, Rufus Jones, Lisa McGrillis, Luke Pasqualino, Claire Rushbrook, and Victoria Smurfit also app<\/a>ear in the series.<\/p>\n

Hulu revealed more about the series in a press release.<\/p>\n

The original eight-part blockbuster is based on the iconic novel by Dame Jilly Cooper \u2013 part of her Rutshire Chronicles series, which is packed full of romantic entanglements, dastardly deals, sex and wit.<\/p>\n

Hulu has announced that all eight episodes of \u201cRivals\u201d, the upcoming adaptation of Dame Jilly Cooper\u2019s iconic novel, will launch on Friday, 18 October 2024<\/strong>. Set against the backdrop of the drama, excess, and shocking antics of the power-grabbing social<\/a> elite of 1980s England, \u201cRivals\u201d delves headfirst into the ruthless world of independent television in 1986.<\/p>\n

The series stars Alex Hassell (\u2018The Tragedy of Macbeth\u2019, \u2018The Boys\u2019) as the dashing ex-Olympian, Member of Parliament, and dangerously charismatic Rupert Campbell-Black, David Tennant (\u2018Doctor Who\u2019, \u2018Good Omens\u2019) as Lord Tony Baddingham, Aidan Turner (\u2018Poldark\u2019, \u2018The Suspect\u2019) as Declan O\u2019Hara, Nafessa Williams (\u2018Black Lighting\u2019, \u2018Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody\u2019) as Cameron Cook, Katherine Parkinson (\u2018Humans\u2019, \u2018Here We Go\u2019) as Lizzie Vereker and Bella Maclean (\u2018Spring Awakening\u2019, \u2018Sex Education\u2019) as Taggie O\u2019Hara.<\/p>\n

The series also stars Emily Atack, Catriona Chandler, Oliver Chris, Danny Dyer, Rufus Jones, Lisa McGrillis, Luke Pasqualino, Claire Rushbrook, and Victoria Smurfit.<\/p>\n

\u201cRivals\u201d is executive produced by Dominic Treadwell-Collins (\u2018A Very English Scandal\u2019, \u2018Holding\u2019, \u2018EastEnders\u2019), Alexander Lamb (\u2018Ackley Bridge\u2019, \u2018The Bay\u2019, \u2018We Hunt Together\u2019), Felicity Blunt, Olivier Award-winning playwright Laura Wade (\u2018The Riot Club\u2019), \u201cRivals\u201d author Dame Jilly Cooper and Director of Scripted Content for Disney+ EMEA Lee Mason. \u201cRivals\u201d is produced by Happy Prince, which is part of ITV Studios. The series is written by Dominic Treadwell-Collins and Laura Wade alongside the series episodic writers room which includes: Sophie Goodhart (\u2018The Baby\u2019, \u2018Sex Education\u2019), Marek Horn (\u2018Wild Swimming\u2019, \u2018Octopolis\u2019), Mimi Hare & Clare Naylor (\u2018The Accidental Husband\u2019), Dare Aiyegbayo (\u2018The Dumping Ground,\u2019 \u2018EastEnders\u2019), Kefi Chadwick (\u2018Looted\u2019, \u2018Avoidance\u2019). Tray Agyeman is a shadow writer on episode 6, and Sorcha Kurien Walsh (\u2018The Pink Pill\u2019) is staff writer in the room. The Casting Director is Kelly Valentine Hendry (\u2018Bridgerton\u2019, \u2018The Last Kingdom\u2019, \u2018Kaos\u2019).<\/p>\n

The lead director is BAFTA-nominated Elliot Hegarty (\u2018Ted Lasso, Cheaters\u2019, \u2018Trying\u2019), who also serves as executive producer on episodes 1-4. Eliza Mellor (\u2018The Midwich Cuckoos\u2019, \u2018Behind Her Eyes\u2019, \u2018Poldark\u2019) serves as Series Producer. Dee Koppang O\u2019Leary (\u201cThe Crown\u201d) and Alexandra Brodski (\u201cSomewhere Boy\u201d) also direct episodes.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
