For other artists, this sort of regional devotion might indicate an ostensible ceiling to their popularity, the outer limits of how far a relatively territorial sound can <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>. By comparison, the army of hometown acolytes Beatking amassed seems to reflect the depth of fans\u2019 admiration rather than the breadth of his appeal. And it isn\u2019t too hard to see how Beatking\u2019s sound has trickled down to the city\u2019s newer generations (TisaKorean used to play Beatking when he DJed in high school), whether they explicitly cite his influence or not. \u201cThe stuff I was doing 10 years ago, you can see it in somebody like [Megan Thee Stallion] today,\u201d Beatking said in a 2020 interview. \u201cShe\u2019s 25, so that means she was listening to me when she was 15\u2026 I\u2019ve been on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            First-time listeners might label Beatking raunchy, ridiculous, or even flat-out rude, with chants like, &#8220;Biiitch you done got thick since you had that baby,&#8221; on 2018&#8217;s &#8220;<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BNhvcpxbuIc\">Molly Monster<\/a>,&#8221; and &#8220;she be fuckin on these rappers I don&#8217;t care (none of my business)&#8221; on last year&#8217;s nearly-earnest paean &#8220;<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BiMV-Xho19U\">Bottle Girl<\/a>.&#8221; These impressions are not unwarranted, but they elide the nuances of the Houstonian\u2019s signature sound and the occasional emotional depth his music can evoke \u2014 Beatking only peers in the rearview occasionally, but his desire to contextualize popped champagne as not only cathartic but earned recurs time and again (see 2010&#8217;s &#8220;<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BTsq29r8Qp4\">Big Moe<\/a>&#8221; and 2015&#8217;s sprawling stream of consciousness &#8220;<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Leg8lHETu2Q\">It Doesn&#8217;t Matter<\/a>&#8220;).<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-263830\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left video\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top: 56.25%;\">\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Why Yo Face So Ugly - Beatking (Official Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2IYB3i-81lM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n \/\/trackYouTubeVideo('263830');\n<\/script><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-263890\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-263831\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Even his lesser songs come equipped with oodles of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=7Jf6SIeApCw\">laugh-out-loud charisma<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hm9b9qU0oE0\">808s so visceral<\/a> they seem to communicate directly with your limbs; more than 15 years into the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>, the self-proclaimed \u201cClub Godzilla\u201d could probably craft a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=SlP6NFIcYdM\">trunk-rattler<\/a> or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=s2Ydktmw17g\">strip club thumper<\/a> in his sleep. At his best, Beatking is endearingly human, toggling between grindset and hornball activities without skipping a beat.<\/p>\n<p>            Though he may not have achieved the same notoriety as some of his peers, Beatking earned plaudits from Texas legends including Bun B, Slim Thug, and Paul Wall, as well as out-of-state nods from industry heavyweights like Drake and Nicki Minaj. His coterie of collaborators highlighted his eclectic taste and impact, spanning features with Armani Caesar, Danny Brown, and 2 Chainz, to name just a few. As validating as these cosigns may have been, they must have paled in comparison to working with Three Six Mafia, an opportunity to contribute to the musical legacy of the group that inspired Beatking the most. The two rappers connected through a mutual friend, DJ Speakerfoxxx. \u201cWe just knew it would be dope,\u201d Gangsta Boo said of their collaboration <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/hiphopdx.com\/news\/id.28486\/title.gangsta-boo-says-she-never-met-beatking-despite-making-underground-cassette-tape-music-with-him\">back in 2014<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s just the right time that I go ahead and co-sign [an] up-and-coming artist such as Beatking who was heavily influenced by the [Three 6] Mafia sound.\u201d That cosign helped to draw critics and new fans to Beatking\u2019s music: \u201cAfter the Gangsta Boo mixtape, it kind of made my fanbase shift slightly,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hotnewhiphop.com\/42309-meet-beatking-the-houston-club-god-who-says-hes-juicy-j-in-99-news\">he explained in 2022<\/a>. \u201cI just had my first show in New York two weeks ago and it was sold out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            While Beatking\u2019s lyrics can be crass to the point of misogyny (see last year\u2019s \u201cRIP K Samuels\u201d), these patriarchal impulses are moderated if not outweighed by a North Star of inclusive ratchet behavior \u2014 his attitude might be \u201cpimps up, hoes down,\u201d but \u201cpimps\u201d can include ladies who keep it playa like Gangsta Boo and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BEATKINGKONG\/status\/1471572897852448774\">LGBT peers<\/a> such as Saucy Santana. \u201cFor me, I\u2019m a LGBT DJ,\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fox26houston.com\/news\/remembering-houston-rapper-beatking\">DJ Panda told Fox26 this week<\/a>. \u201cOne thing that I really gave him credit for is that he included everybody in his music. And he came and supported us \u2014 he showed us respect, we showed him respect.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-263835\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left video\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top: 56.25%;\">\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"THEN LEAVE (Official Video) - Beatking feat. Queendome Come (Directed by og_visions)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Qqlw8iQeTHs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n \/\/trackYouTubeVideo('263835');\n<\/script><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-263834\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Though Gangsta Boo is the biggest female rapper Beatking worked with, one of his closest collaborators was Queendom Come, who first featured on his 2011 mixtape <i>Club God<\/i>. \u201cHe was ahead of his time,\u201d Queendom Come told <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forwardtimes.com\/a_and_c\/entertainment\/the-king-and-i-beatking-s-longtime-collaborator-queendom-come-speaks-on-his-life-and\/article_4998b14c-5fde-11ef-abb9-b7a1a825508c.html\"><i>Forward Times<\/i><\/a> shortly after his passing. \u201cHe was just one of those rappers that worked with a lot of female talent but, most importantly, he made sure the women he worked with got their credit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            The pair found viral success on TikTok in 2020 with \u201cThen Leave,\u201d which prompted Columbia to sign Beatking, though the partnership, like a previous deal with Sony, was short-lived. Beatking discussed the particulars of his departure from Columbia on the outro to last year\u2019s <i>She Won\u2019t Leave Houston<\/i>, citing the slow-moving bureaucracy and occasional creative meddling of label politics as part of the reason he prefers working independently. Still, he characterized the deal as a positive learning experience, and this is perhaps the heart of what makes Beatking such a resonant artist.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-263836\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            \u201c2009,\u201d the penultimate song on last month\u2019s <i>Never Leave Houston On A Sunday<\/i>, found Beatking reflecting on 15 years in the rap game. He \u201cdumbed [his] flow down \/ started making wack ass beats with only four sounds\u201d to gain traction on the dancefloor; when he couldn\u2019t pay the light bill, his sick mother told him to leave her in the dark so he could push his records to DJs in the club. On the album outro, he admits to tearing up thinking of his late mother when he recorded \u201c2009.\u201d Even if Beatking rarely addresses these struggles in his verses, there\u2019s an implicit catharsis in his \u201cdumbed down\u201d bangers, the celebratory thrill of having a good time against the odds.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-263837\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Every June 27th or Dec. 4th I think about my legacy i&#8217;m tryna leave.
