\n Fatman Scoop, the Grammy-winning DJ, hype man and radio personality, died after collapsing onstage this weekend. He was 53.<\/p>\n

\n Fatman Scoop, real name Isaac Freeman III, collapsed on Friday while performing at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut, per video obtained by TMZ<\/a><\/em>. His family announced his death on Saturday morning, but gave no cause. <\/p>\n

\n In their statement<\/a>, the family referred to Freeman as \u201ca radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life\u201d who, on top of being a \u201cworld class performer\u201d was also \u201ca father, brother, uncle and a friend.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n \u201cHe was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength and courage,\u201d they continued. \u201cFatMan Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n A statement from MN2S, Freeman\u2019s PR firm, also spoke to his<\/a> \u201ciconic voice, infectious energy and great personality.\u201d The company noted he had been a client for 15 years, and his \u201cvibrant spirit, boundless enthusiasm and passion for music will always remain in our hearts.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Sharron Elkabas, CEO of MN2S, also told The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>, \u201cHe had an energy drink before going on stage. He never drank energy drinks, but he did before this show.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Freeman is best known for his 1999 track \u201cBe Faithful.\u201d He was also featured on Missy Elliott\u2019s 2005 \u201cLose Control,\u201d for which he won a Grammy. The same year, he app<\/a>eared on Mariah Carey\u2019s \u201cIt\u2019s Like That.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Freeman and Dyce Paso had just premiered the official music video for their new song, \u201cLet It Go,\u201d on Friday morning. Last month, he was featured on Tech N9ne\u2019s track, \u201cNo Popcorn.\u201d On social media<\/a>, he was celebrated for his club remixes of popular songs, including numbers by Nicki Minaj and Tyla. <\/p>\n

\n Per Elkabas, Freeman is survived by his son, daughter and brother.<\/p>\n

\n On Instagram, Questlove posted a tribute<\/a> to the DJ, writing, \u201cI want to thank Fatman Scoop for being an embodiment of what hip hop was truly about. To just forget about your troubles and live in the moment and allow joy in.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n DJ D-Nice also posted a tribute<\/a>, saying \u201che was always kind to me. This is a major loss for the culture. My condolences to all of his loved ones.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
