Registration now!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>One such step is fast-tracking state aid schemes \u2014 one of the regulation\u2019s most crucial mechanisms to attract major international companies and increase the number of domestic chip factories.<\/p>\n<p>The EU has still to approve state aid for Intel\u2019s planned \u20ac30bn mega fab in Germany. Last month, it finally approved \u20ac5bn in support of TSMC\u2019s upcoming chip plant in Dresden \u2014 a year later after the Taiwanese chip giant announced its commitment to invest in the bloc.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Open_trade_and_a_%E2%80%9Cholistic%E2%80%9D_policy_approach\"><\/span>Open trade and a \u201cholistic\u201d policy approach<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Another step, according to ESIA, is the support of open trade.<\/p>\n<p>The group advocates for a \u201cmore positive approach to economic security\u201d instead of a defensive strategy that \u201crelies on restrictive and protective measures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ESIA\u2019s suggestion echoes the multiple export restrictions of ASML\u2019s chipmaking machines to China amid tense relations with the US.<\/p>\n<p>And as (under US pressure) the Dutch government is currently assessing <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/markets\/netherlands-weigh-asmls-interests-china-export-restriction-decision-pm-says-2024-08-30\/\">further curbs<\/a>, China is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.globaltimes.cn\/page\/202409\/1319035.shtml\">reportedly<\/a> considering cutting ties with ASML altogether, depriving the company of one of its biggest markets.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, ESIA proposes continuous competitiveness checks and a coordinated, \u201cholistic\u201d industrial strategy that involves the industry players.<\/p>\n<p>This includes a special body within the European Commission.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA dedicated \u2018Chips Envoy\u2019 responsible for the overall industrial policy approach to semiconductors, is a necessity,\u201d the group said.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
