“#MTA honors heroic transit workers for saving fallen man from oncoming train<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n Transit officials on Wednesday feted an MTA worker who jumped in front of an oncoming train to save a fellow straphanger\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

Roberto Ritcher, a 27-year MTA veteran, made the heroic rescue at Jay Street-Metrotech station in Brooklyn just after noon on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cRoberto didn\u2019t hesitate to act. He put himself in danger to help a fellow New Yorker, leaping onto the tracks to pull the man to safety,\u201d Interim Transit President Sarah Feinberg said during a press event.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t seem to flinch. He didn\u2019t seem to take a second. He just jumped on the tracks. He know exactly what to do,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Ritcher told reporters he was waiting for the subway when he heard a loud pop and saw an elderly man lying in the tracks.<\/p>\n

He and another rider pulled the man off the tracks \u201cseconds before\u201d the train arrived, the MTA said. But the hero workman didn\u2019t even see the C train entering the station, he admitted.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou don\u2019t hesitate when you see a helpless person like that,\u201d he said. \u201cThe way he was, the way I looked at him and he was bleeding, it\u2019s immedia<\/a>te.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a 70-year-old guy. I was just like, \u2018I gotta get him out.’\u201d<\/p>\n

Station cleaner Cha-Nikka Cheatham, also feted by Feinberg, saw Ritcher jump onto the tracks from another platform and ran to get medical assistance, then to Ritcher to provide additional support.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he jumped down, I ran up the stairs to come over and it was like blood everywhere,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had cloths, gloves, so I just started giving it to everybody. Whoever came on the scene, I was giving them everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Feinberg praised both employees.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re truly selfless actions yesterday exemplify what transit employees do every day in caring for the million of people that use our system,\u201d she said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
