\n Alan Cumming is the new reigning best reality or competition program host after winning the Emmy for the category at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday, putting an end to RuPaul\u2018s eight-year streak. The win earned Cumming his first Emmy Award as host of Peacock\u2019s The Traitors.<\/em><\/p>\n

\n Cumming wasn\u2019t in attendance at this year\u2019s ceremony, but during a previous Q&A for THR Frontrunners,<\/em>\u00a0he told The Hollywood Reporter <\/em>that he app<\/a>roaches hosting the reality competition like any other role.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI feel like it\u2019s a huge acting job,\u201d said Cumming, of The Traitors<\/em>, which is also nominated for best reality competition series<\/a>. \u201cI think about it as a character. Obviously it\u2019s me \u2014\u00a0his name\u2019s Alan Cumming \u2014 but obviously it\u2019s not really me. I don\u2019t really sound like that. I don\u2019t dress like that. I don\u2019t have a castle. Alas, that\u2019s too bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n As for the secret to the show\u2019s must-see success, Cumming told THR<\/em> in a previous interview, \u201cWe all lie, but we forget to see when people are lying or have to lie [to us]. It\u2019s a sociological thing. We\u2019re a secret camera, getting to watch people do stuff we never normally get to [see].\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n Additional nominees in the category for best host for a reality or competition program included Kristen Kish of Top Chef<\/em>; Jeff Probst of Survivor<\/em>; and Mark Cuban, Lori Greiner, Kevin O\u2019Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Robert Herjavec, and Daymond John for Shark Tank<\/em>. RuPaul, creator, executive producer and host of\u00a0RuPaul\u2019s Drag Race<\/em>, which completed its 16th season earlier this year, still remains the most-awarded reality host in\u00a0Emmys\u00a0history, having won the category eight consecutive years from 2016-2023. He also holds the record for the most awards won by a Black artist, with a total of 14 Primetime Emmys stemming from 25 nominations.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
