\n Disgraced George Washington University professor Jessica Krug, who sparked a firestorm by pretending to be black, has now quit her job at the school, officials announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Krug, 38, who is actually white, had already been pulled from teaching duties this semester and faced calls to step down after she admitted being a \u201cculture leech\u201d who publicly lied about her race for years.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Krug resigned her position, effective immediately,\u201d the university announced on Twitter<\/a>. \u201cHer classes for this semester will be taught by other faculty members, and students in those courses will receive additional information this week.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krug, an African history professor at the Washington, DC, school, came clean last week and admitted on a post in Medium that she \u201ceschewed my lived experience as a white Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have build my life on a violent anti-Black lie, and I have lied in every breath I have taken,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

On Friday, the school announced that Krug would not be teaching this semester, with other faculty at GWU saying they were \u201capp<\/a>alled\u201d at her long-running deception.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith what she has termed her \u2018audaciously deceptive\u2019 appropriation of an Afri-Caribbean identity, she has betrayed the trust of countless current and former students, fellow scholars of Africana Studies\u2026 as well as community activists in New York City and beyond,\u201d they said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n

Krug has a Ph.D and authored a book titled \u201cFugitive Modernities: Kisama and the Politics of Freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n

The university urged students \u201cwho have been affected\u201d by the controversy to seek assistance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that with this update our community can begin to heal and move forward,\u201d the statement said.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
