\n Los Angeles pulled a Halloween switcheroo on Wednesday \u2014 first banning, and then quickly unbanning, trick-or-treating.<\/p>\n

Less than a day after saying the door-to-door candy grab is banned due to coronavirus concerns, county officials changed course and said the popular children\u2019s tradition is now just \u201cnot recommended.\u201d<\/p>\n

The revision came after parents and businesses \u201cwent apoplectic with outrage,\u201d Deadline reported,\u00a0citing a press briefing by LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer.<\/p>\n

Also not recommended \u2014 but no longer outright banned \u2014 are LA\u2019s popular \u201ctrunk-or-treat\u201d events, in which costumed kids go car to car instead of door to door.<\/p>\n

According to the newly-updated county guidelines:<\/p>\n

\u201cDoor to door trick or treating is not recommended because it can be very difficult to maintain proper social<\/a> distancing on porches and at front doors, ensure that everyone answering or coming to the door is app<\/a>ropriately masked to prevent disease spread, and because sharing food is risky.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018Trunk or treating\u2019 where children go from car to car instead of door to door to receive treats is also not recommended, particularly when part of Halloween events, since it is difficult to avoid crowding and sharing food,\u201d the guidelines state.<\/p>\n

The new guidlelines still ban any Halloween gatherings or festivals with non-household members, even if held outdoors.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
