Fortunately for <em>Halt<\/em>, the network\u2019s flagship shows, <em>Mad Men<\/em> and <em>Breaking Bad<\/em>, had mostly concluded their decorated runs at the time, and AMC, in the interest of creating new critical darlings, decided to invest further in Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers\u2019 under-viewed drama series, something that\u2019s a rarity in this day and age of increasingly impatient networks, studios and streamers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Davis played a gifted young computer programmer who was at the forefront of the personal computing and internet revolutions in the \u201980s and \u201990s, and throughout the rest of the series, she had an off-and-on romantic relationship with Lee Pace\u2019s visionary entrepreneur, Joe MacMillan. Alongside their initially married friends and intermittent business partners, Gordon (Scoot McNairy) and Donna Clark (Kerry Bish\u00e9), the characters\u2019 friendships, relationships and marriages were tested to the nth degree amid the fast-changing marketplace they inhabited.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    AMC\u2019s belief in the series paid off, critically, as the show went from a well reviewed season one to a genuine critical favorite as of seasons two through four. The ratings never took off like they did for <em>Breaking Bad<\/em> in its later seasons, but the network was celebrated for prioritizing quality above all else.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    That brings us to James Watkins\u2019 reimagining of Christian Tafdrup\u2019s psychological horror film, <em>Speak No Evil<\/em>, which reunites<em> Halt<\/em>\u2019s Davis and McNairy as a married couple. Having played friends and colleagues with a sibling-like dynamic on their former show, the first trailer for the Blumhouse-Universal film caused quite an uproar among the <em>Halt <\/em>fan base, which, thanks to streamers like Netflix, has grown considerably since wr<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing in 2017.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Davis admits that this new dynamic with McNairy was a little uncomfortable at first, but that early discomfort likely served their characters well since they\u2019re portraying a married couple at a particularly rocky time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cThere was something that felt sort of incestuous or perverse about it when I was like, \u2018Oh, we\u2019re going to kiss on the lips? But that\u2019s Donna\u2019s husband.\u2019 But then it was fine,\u201d Davis tells <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Similar to the 2022 Danish film, Watkins\u2019 film follows a similar premise, as Louise (Davis) and Ben (McNairy) Dalton visit the English countryside farmhouse of Paddy (James McAvoy) and Ciara (Aisling Franciosi) after meeting each other\u2019s families during an Italian vacation. The getaway soon goes very, very wrong for the Dalton family, culminating in a very different ending for the American version.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Tafdrup\u2019s film has one of the most gut-wrenching conclusions in recent memory, and while Watkins and co. went a more hopeful way, Davis insists that she wouldn\u2019t have been scared off had they opted to do something similar to the Danish predecessor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cIt\u2019s really ballsy, but \u2026 I don\u2019t think it would\u2019ve felt as true to this movie, because we\u2019re not playing with politeness in quite the same way that Christian [Tafdrup] was in his,\u201d Davis says. \u201cWe have different cultural mores and norms to exploit, but yeah, I think that [original ending] was cool and brave and sick.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    In a previous conversation with yours truly for Davis\u2019 other critically acclaimed series, <em>Station Eleven<\/em>, Davis expressed how much she wanted to play younger Furiosa in George Miller\u2019s <em>Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga<\/em>. After all, she\u2019d already played a younger version of a Charlize Theron character in Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman\u2019s 2018 gem, <em>Tully<\/em>. But the role had already gone to Anya Taylor-Joy, and while she\u2019s a big fan of the actor, Davis admitted that she felt some temporary frustration at the time of the announcement. Fast forward to the present, Davis had no problem enjoying the now-released film, including Taylor-Joy\u2019s well regarded performance.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cI thought it was amazing. I loved it. I love George Miller, and I think Anya was incredible. I was maybe too open about wanting that part that it\u2019s now coming up again, but it was never an option,\u201d Davis says. \u201cI just like that stoic warrior that Charlie created. I think it\u2019s an incredible character, and I thought Anya added a lot to her.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Below, during a recent conversation with <em>THR<\/em>, Davis also discusses her uncertainty over one of her most impressive scenes in <em>Speak No Evil<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>Well, let\u2019s not bury the lede. When I saw the <\/strong><strong><em>Speak No Evil<\/em><\/strong><strong> (2024) trailer for the first time, the image of <\/strong><strong><em>Halt and Catch Fire<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u2019s Cameron and Gordon as a married couple caused me to short circuit.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    (<em>Laughs<\/em>.) It\u2019s the fanfic everybody was asking for.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>How did this reunion with Scoot unfold from your perspective?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    I don\u2019t think James Watkins has ever watched <em>Halt and Catch Fire<\/em> [in totality], so it was just a complete surprise. I almost feel you wouldn\u2019t want to do that; it\u2019s a cult show. Did a bunch of <\/strong><strong><em>Halt <\/em><\/strong><strong>people reach out?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    No, not a single one. (<em>Laughs<\/em>.) I haven\u2019t heard from anyone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>Apparently, I\u2019m the only one making a fuss about it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    I know, but I appreciate that you are.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>Oddly enough, I talked to your <\/strong><strong><em>Halt<\/em><\/strong><strong> producer Melissa Bernstein recently, and while she\u2019s very excited to see the movie, she thinks Lee and Kerry should even the score in their own movie.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Yeah, I would like that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>So maybe you\u2019ve started a very deep <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> here.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    I\u2019m glad. I look forward to the next pairing trying to outdo us.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>Cam and Gordon were friends and colleagues, but they were also like siblings at times. They\u2019d bicker playing video games, or she\u2019d flick rubber bands at him. So how long did it take for that old dynamic to wear off?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    I guess im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely, because we weren\u2019t really like that in real life. I did have this younger sister-type admiration for him as an actor. When we first started working together, <em>Halt<\/em> was one of my first jobs and he was just so great. So it felt very student-teacher a little bit, not that he was doing anything like that, but I just felt that way towards him. So it was fun to meet as adults, and there was something that felt sort of incestuous or perverse about it when I was like, \u201cOh, we\u2019re going to kiss on the lips? But that\u2019s Donna\u2019s husband.\u201d (<em>Laughs<\/em>.) They\u2019re not in the throes of a passionate romance. They are very much at odds with where they\u2019re at. So, as they say, use it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>You\u2019ve played characters who look after children, but was this your first proper experience playing a mother?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    There\u2019s another [2024] movie called <em>Swimming<\/em> <em>Home<\/em> where I played the mother to a 16-year-old, and I\u2019m currently playing the mother to a 16-year-old. That said, if you were asked to recreate that nightmarish ending, do you think you still would\u2019ve signed on? Would you have wanted to recreate that?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Yeah!<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>Really!?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Yeah, I think it\u2019s cool. It\u2019s really ballsy, but I get why it doesn\u2019t work for our movie. It\u2019s true to the original, and I don\u2019t think it would\u2019ve felt as true to this movie, because we\u2019re not playing with politeness in quite the same way that Christian [Tafdrup] was in his. We have different cultural mores and norms to exploit, but yeah, I think that [original ending] was cool and brave and sick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>As someone who washes his sheets every Sunday like clockwork, I would\u2019ve left the farmhouse as soon as I saw the bedding conditions. When would you have pulled the plug?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    I think that\u2019s correct. Seeing the bedsheets would be so uncomfortable, so I\u2019d make up a very big dramatic lie and rush out of the house on the phone as though somebody\u2019s died. And then I\u2019d get in the car and go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>One of the creepiest scenes in the original was the shower scene, and while it didn\u2019t make the cut, I heard that you actually shot it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    We did shoot it! I liked it. [Louise] wasn\u2019t getting slashed, but it felt very <em>Psycho<\/em> just being in the shower while he was doing his business. I\u2019m not sure why it didn\u2019t make the cut.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>Would that have just been too many red flags for Louise?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Yeah, maybe. It was getting to a point where you\u2019ve got to go. That\u2019s the sort of cultural DNA that differentiates these two movies. You do feel like an Americanness in Louise. She\u2019s trying to go. She\u2019s not trying to placate. She is trying to make sure her husband\u2019s happy and not just forge ahead with what she wants all the time, but I do think she has this frontier attitude of, \u201cLet\u2019s just take care of the family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>Louise and Ben each have their own individual fears. Unlike him, Louise is afraid to cliff jump, and the scene ends without her doing so. Did Mackenzie Davis still make the jump on the day?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Mackenzie Davis would [cliff jump], but Mackenzie Davis didn\u2019t. If I was like, \u201cWell, I\u2019ll just get wet even though you guys weren\u2019t planning on it,\u201d that spontaneity can really derail an entire shooting day for people.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>Has this movie affected your desire to be a host or houseguest?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    I love hosting and then I love people leaving. I love having a really elaborate dinner party that takes me a few days to put together. We all eat and drink all night, and then when it\u2019s time to go, I don\u2019t want anyone to help with the dishes. I want to have this hour by myself while I clean up and have peace. Could you feel any remnants of <\/strong><strong><em>Terminator: Dark Fate<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u2019s Grace during any of that?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Yeah, surprisingly. Grace is about the furthest away from me that you can get in terms of ability, gracefulness and physical acumen, but I did have some firearm training stuff and a type of running that started coming [back] in. James was so great about really insisting on an ineptitude in these characters. They\u2019re not good at this. Everything is new, and none of this is familiar. So it was good direction to keep pushing away from anything that revealed a <em>Terminator<\/em> past.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>After <\/strong><strong><em>Halt and Catch Fire<\/em><\/strong><strong>, <\/strong><strong><em>Black<\/em><\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong><em>Mirror <\/em><\/strong><strong>and <\/strong><strong><em>Station Eleven<\/em><\/strong><strong>, you\u2019ve set a very high bar for yourself on television. Has that made you even more particular about what series you commit to now?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Yeah, I think so \u2014 in the sense that they just take a long time to film, and if you\u2019re going to be doing that, you want to really love something. I\u2019m making a TV show right now called <em>The<\/em> <em>Undertow<\/em>, but I hope it\u2019s also good. I hope it lives in that world. I think it\u2019s pretty special. If you end up doing it for six months or multiple seasons, you really want to love the people you\u2019re making it with and the material and the reason why.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>So I spoke to <\/strong><strong><em>Tully<\/em><\/strong><strong> writer Diablo Cody earlier this year about your favorite subject of <\/strong><strong><em>Furiosa<\/em><\/strong><strong>, and because of your role in <\/strong><strong><em>Tully<\/em><\/strong><strong>, her eyes also widened at what could have been. And this is nothing against Anya Taylor-Joy; she was great in the role of Furiosa. It\u2019s just that us <\/strong><strong><em>Tully<\/em><\/strong><strong> fans already saw you play younger Charlize so effortlessly. I loved it. I love George Miller, and I think Anya was incredible. I was maybe too open about wanting that part that it\u2019s now coming up again, but it was never an option. I just like that stoic warrior that Charlie created. I think it\u2019s an incredible character, and I thought Anya added a lot to her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>It was partially my fault that you were too open about <\/strong><strong>wanting the role of Furiosa<\/strong><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    I know! I knew it was you! I thought that would be really interesting. To me, it\u2019s less what you take with you and more, \u201cWhat role do you do next that\u2019s not a reaction to this one? What have you satisfied with this to where you now need something opposite or different to satisfy?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>To me, the movie is about the virtues of therapy: the stuffed animal, the primal scream scene, Louise\u2019s confession. Of course, the latter served a dual purpose, but I thought it was your finest scene in the film.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    That\u2019s so funny. I struggled with that [confession] scene so much. I kept wanting to rewrite it. I was genuinely obsessed with it. I just couldn\u2019t figure it out. It didn\u2019t make sense to me. I didn\u2019t understand the logic of it. I didn\u2019t know why she was doing it. I could not do it. And then maybe all the anxiety I had over it\u00a0 \u2014\u00a0and how much I thought about what I couldn\u2019t do with it \u2014\u00a0fed into the frustration in the scene. So, at a certain point, we just had to shoot it, and I had to find a way to make it make sense to me, which I did as much as possible. But I definitely left that day being like, \u201cOh my God, that is going to be so horrible when it comes to the final cut of the movie.\u201d So, anyway, thank you. You\u2019re forgiven for the Furiosa thing. (<em>Laughs<\/em>.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <strong>Lastly, what single day on <\/strong><strong><em>Speak No Evil<\/em><\/strong><strong> will you likely recall many decades from now?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    They had a chicken wrangler on set one day, and it said chicken wrangler on the back of her uniform. She was carrying two chickens on either side of her arm and their bums were poking out the back.
