“#Coronavirus scaring away NYC Halloween festivities and traditions<\/strong>”<\/p>\n

\n The coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc on Halloween in the Big App<\/a>le, not only scuttling the beloved Greenwich Village parade, but ruining other longstanding traditions \u2014 and scaring many parents into keeping trick-or-treaters at home.<\/p>\n

Hells Kitchen\u2019s 1,600-ghoul \u201cMonster Ball,\u201d the city\u2019s biggest Halloween party, is canceled, given the 25-percent capacity limit.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not worth our while at 25 percent,\u201d organizer Debbie Medina said of what would have been the sixth annual costume contest and ball.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s up to the governor \u2014 we would consider it for 50 percent,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

At the city\u2019s biggest, oldest haunted house \u2014 \u201cBlood Manor\u201d at Broadway and Franklin Street \u2014 the show will still go on.<\/p>\n

But its usual long run, which last year attracted a million frightened-stiff attendees, will be shortened to Oct. 9 through the first week of November.<\/p>\n

And the typical in-your-face zombies will be social<\/a>ly distanced.<\/p>\n

\u201cBack in the day, they would be spewing and spitting blood at people, but obviously they won\u2019t be able to do that now,\u201d lamented spokeswoman Leslie Taylor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe blood is fake, obviously,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The city has issued no official thumbs up or down on trick-or-treating \u2014 unlike in Los Angeles, where county politicians on Wednesday first banned the door-to-door tradition, and then later reversed themselves somewhat, saying it\u2019s \u201cnot recommended\u201d for health safety reasons.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ll have an announcement on this soon, stay tuned,\u201d a City Hall spokesman told The Post.<\/p>\n

\u201cNothing to report today.\u201d<\/p>\n

But many city parents aren\u2019t waiting for an official edict \u2014 they\u2019re banning outside trick-or-treating on their own.<\/p>\n

Em Hynes, 40, of NoHo, said she\u2019ll bring her daughter, 6, and son, 9, to a friend\u2019s brownstone for a small Halloween get-together.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s super-safe \u2014 and nice,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe usually watch the beginning of the parade as well. Kind of sad it\u2019s canceled,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe parade makes Halloween feel like Halloween in the city. We need to figure out a new game<\/a> plan this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

A stay-at-home Bronx mom who gave only her first name, Zora, said her three-year-old girl\u2019s scaled-back Halloween will consist of last year\u2019s Elmo costume and a mommy-daughter playdate \u2014 at home.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith COVID-19, I\u2019m not taking any chances,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019re not going anywhere. We\u2019re not opening the door to anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a shame but you gotta do what you gotta do to be safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jacqueline Mitchell, 54, and granddaughter Keilah Seebrooks, 13, were among the families concocting safe trick-or-treat alternative plans Wednesday.<\/p>\n

In their case, all candy will now be dispensed among family only, and from a giant cardboard \u201chouse\u201d \u2014 in their Bronx living room.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou knock on the door and somebody comes out and gives you candy,\u201d Keilah said of tricking and treating, COVID-style.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow I\u2019m happy,\u201d said the girl, who had balked at first when her grandmother said, \u201cNo, you are not going trick-or-treating this year.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keilah said she\u2019ll attend wearing \u201ca puffy tutu.\u201d<\/p>\n
