\n Cops were called to a Long Island high school Wednesday after a student showed up in defiance of a suspension he received for flouting the district\u2019s hybrid-learning schedule.<\/p>\n

William Floyd High School senior Maverick Stow, who said he believes schools should be offering a full-time in-person option amid the pandemic, received a five-day suspension for the act.<\/p>\n

But Stow went to school again Wednesday and \u201ccontinued to display insubordinate behavior,\u201d the district said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The district said Stow even squared up to a district official, saying he would have to be forcibly removed from school grounds, the statement said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen a student is suspended off of school grounds for any reason, we cannot and will not tolerate students trying to gain access to our grounds or buildings,\u201d the district said.<\/p>\n

Suffolk County police were called to the school and told the student only to show up when he\u2019s scheduled to do so.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe student left without incident,\u201d police said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Stow told News<\/a>day that he was polite with school officials during Wednesday\u2019s showdown. He also reiterated to the outlet his belief that remote learning is ineffective.<\/p>\n

The high school senior said he\u2019s pushing to amend the school\u2019s hybrid model and believes the district can provide a safe environment for students who would prefer to be in class full-time, according to the report.<\/p>\n

Stow recommended that students who wish to learn remotely could do so full-time, freeing up space at the school.<\/p>\n

The district on Wednesday said they agree with Stow that \u201cschool should be held in person five days per week.\u201d<\/p>\n

But, the district noted, they are operating under state policy with strict social<\/a> distancing requirements.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf his goal is to get school open five days per week, he is encouraged to take his advocacy to his state elected officials,\u201d the district said in a statement.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
