Warner was previously CTO at Microsoft-owned GitHub, which launched the AI-powered programming tool Copilot back in 2021. Kant previously founded source{d}, which in 2016 became one of the world\u2019s first companies dedicated to applying AI to code.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In August 2023, Poolside raised a massive $126mn <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sifted.eu\/articles\/poolside-raises-126m-relocated-france-news\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">seed round<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, after which it moved its HQ from the US to Paris. That move came just a few months after French president Emmanuel Macron announced a <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.france24.com\/en\/europe\/20230615-macron-wants-to-boost-ai-calls-for-smart-rules-that-don-t-impede-tech-growth\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u20ac500mn plan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to encourage the development of new AI \u201cchampions.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">France, and Paris in particular, has become a European hotbed for artificial intelligence. In June, OpenAI rival <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mistral raised <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u20ac600mn<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at a \u20ac5.8bn valuation. In May, startup Holistic (now known simply as H) secured<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$200mn<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in a round that values the company at $370mn. Both startups are based in the City of Light.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poolside draws a number of parallels with Mistral in particular, which is also building LLMs that write code.
