A decade after the wildly popular game<\/a> Flapp<\/a>y Bird disappeared, an organization calling itself The Flappy Bird Foundation announced plans<\/a> to \u201cre-hatch the official Flappy Bird\u00ae game.\u201d<\/p>\n

But this morning, the game\u2019s creator Dong Nguyen posted a characteristically terse comment<\/a> stating that he has nothing to do with the revival, and that he \u201cdid not sell anything.\u201d He added, \u201cI also don\u2019t support crypto.\u201d<\/p>\n

To be clear, Nguyen\u2019s comments don\u2019t exactly contradict anything in the foundation\u2019s announcement, which described the group<\/a> as a \u201cnew team of passionate fans committed to sharing the game with the world,\u201d and said it had<\/a> \u201cacquired the rights from Gametech Holdings, LLC.\u201d (Apparently Gametech successfully filed to terminate<\/a> Nguyen\u2019s Flappy Bird trademark a couple years ago.)<\/p>\n

But the post makes it clear that Nguyen is not involved with the new project, and that he doesn\u2019t seem particularly happy about it.<\/p>\n

As for Nguyen\u2019s reference to crypto, while the foundation\u2019s current PR materials don\u2019t mention anything crypto-related, Varun Biniwale did some digging around hidden pages<\/a> on the Flappy Bird Foundation website<\/a> and found a reference to Flappy Bird flying \u201chigher than ever on Solana as it soars into Web 3.0,\u201d though it\u2019s not clear whether that refers to upcoming features or abandoned plans.<\/p>\n

Flappy Bird \u2014 a relatively simple side-scrolling game with retro graphics \u2014 was first released in 2013, eventually becoming a viral hit and the most-downloaded app on both the iOS and Android app stores. However, Nguyen took the app down in February 2014, declaring, \u201cI cannot take this anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
