The first reviews of the Marvel spinoff from critics have been rolling in, and they\u2019ve been decidedly mixed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The show, created by Jac Schaeffer, follows a spell-bound Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn) as she regains freedom thanks to a mysterious person who goes by Teen\u00a0(Joe Locke). Intrigued by his plea, she then embarks on the Witches\u2019 Road, \u201ca magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they\u2019re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven and set off,\u201d the logline reads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> sees Kathryn Hahn reprise her role of Agatha Harkness after previously <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>earing in <em>WandaVision<\/em>, as well as stars Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Patti LuPone, Okwui Okpokwasili and Paul Adelstein.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Read on for key excerpts from some of the most prominent early reviews (of the first four episodes, as that\u2019s all that was sent to critics) following the release of\u00a0<em><em>Agatha All Along<\/em><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u2018s TV Critic Angie Han wrote in her review, \u201cDisney+\u2019s\u00a0<em>Agatha All Along<\/em>\u00a0(or at least the four 40ish-minute episodes sent to critics) could be a decently promising new adventure, with a lovable cast and a cheeky sensibility but also a lot of room to grow. But jerky pacing and relentless rug-pulling ultimately make it more persuasive as an exercise in brand extension than as an enchanting adventure in its own right.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    David Fear with <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv-movies\/tv-movie-reviews\/agatha-all-along-review-kathryn-hahn-marvel-1235100808\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/tv-movies\/tv-movie-reviews\/agatha-all-along-review-kathryn-hahn-marvel-1235100808\/\">Rolling Stone<\/a><\/em> wrote, \u201cCreator Jac Schaeffer\u2019s follow-up to his superhero tragedy pokes fun at self-serious procedurals just long enough to make you miss the goof once it\u2019s gone\u2026.Soon, this spell will be broken,\u00a0<em>Agatha All Along<\/em>\u00a0will settle into a nice groove as a quest adventure, and \u2014 per the four episodes sent out to the press \u2014 take full advantage of the supernatural sisterhood assembled for the task at hand. The witch is back!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Ben Travers, with <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/criticism\/shows\/agatha-all-along-review-marvel-1235048509\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CAgatha%20All%20Along%2C%E2%80%9D%20like,this%20frivolous%20fantasy%20any%20favors\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/criticism\/shows\/agatha-all-along-review-marvel-1235048509\/#:~:text=%E2%80%9CAgatha%20All%20Along%2C%E2%80%9D%20like,this%20frivolous%20fantasy%20any%20favors\">Indiewire<\/a><\/em>, wrote in his review, \u201cThe half-hour(-ish) episodes show some signs of growth. For instance, there\u2019s no boring B-plot where government agents run a secret mission to smuggle MCU world-building into Westview. The core narrative also seems well-designed for episodic TV, unlike so many other stretched-out MCU adventures,\u201d however, \u201c<em>Agatha All Along<\/em>,\u00a0like<em> WandaVision<\/em>,\u00a0is too withholding for its own good. Sure, teasing plot twists can lead to thrilling payoffs, but tabling character backstories by treating personal motivations like world-altering secrets doesn\u2019t do this frivolous fantasy any favors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/09\/18\/arts\/television\/agatha-all-along-review.html#:~:text=They%20can't%20turn%20base,the%20tired%2C%20generic%20story%20lines\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/09\/18\/arts\/television\/agatha-all-along-review.html#:~:text=They%20can't%20turn%20base,the%20tired%2C%20generic%20story%20lines\">The New York Times<\/a><\/em>\u2018 Mike Hale wrote, \u201cThey can\u2019t turn base narrative into gold, though, and <em>Agatha All Along<\/em> slogs down its chosen path, with the coven squabbling and bonding through a series of frenetic but unexciting trials. The virtues of the theme of female empowerment are outweighed by the tired, generic story lines. There is a discernible current of barbed humor in the dialogue, but it\u2019s not strong enough to turn on any lights.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cYou may ask yourself how, in the three years that have elapsed between the two shows,<em> Agatha<\/em> has undergone a complete personality shift, from chirpy neighborhood noodge to hardened cop,\u201d Hale added. \u201cYou should be more concerned, though, with why the cop-show pastiche is so disappointing \u2014 so dull and aimless that talented comic actresses like Kathryn Hahn (who stars as Agatha) and Aubrey Plaza seem at a loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Taylor Gates wrote for <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/agatha-all-along-review\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/agatha-all-along-review\/\">Collider<\/a><\/em>, \u201cWhile the show includes the best parts of Schaeffer\u2019s signature style [referencing <em>WandaVision<\/em>] \u2014 sharp comedy, intriguing mystery, and production design packed with clever details and Easter eggs \u2014 <em>Agatha All Along<\/em> is firmly its own thing, and all the better for it.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    However, Gates praised Hahn\u2019s performance, adding, \u201cTheatricality and spectacle are a must for a show of this scale and a character like Agatha, and Hahn has that in spades \u2014 she\u2019s not afraid to go big, be loud, and take up space. But there\u2019s always something deeper going on under the surface \u2014 something Agatha is desperately trying to hide. Hahn grounds this larger-than-life character with nuance, conveying vulnerability with the flicker of a single microexpression. Her charisma is magnetic, but it\u2019s the subtle, breathtaking moments of raw emotion that make us care about and sympathize with her, proving she\u2019s always been more than comedic relief. Hahn\u2019s performance is its own kind of magic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    TV critic Robert Lloyd wrote in his review for the <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/tv\/story\/2024-09-18\/agatha-all-along-the-penguin-review\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment-arts\/tv\/story\/2024-09-18\/agatha-all-along-the-penguin-review\">Los Angeles Times<\/a><\/em>, \u201cIt\u2019s all cleverly done and very funny but also suspenseful and a little scary, with a winning combination of the supernatural and the banal (the witches arguing about who was pitchy and who was flat when they sing a magic song). Agatha might not be a good witch, but she\u2019s not wicked, and she has reasons. Hahn is hilarious, which makes her likable good company, whatever her shenanigans or cutting remarks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201c<em>Agatha All Along<\/em>\u00a0may not be off to the strongest start for a Marvel series, but considering there are still seven more episodes to go, there are more than enough chances for the show to really surprise audiences and deliver some excitement, engaging storytelling, and even a few scares. It\u2019s just too bad that the show doesn\u2019t really get off on the right foot, but for those who are willing to walk the road with\u00a0<em>Agatha All Along<\/em>, there are likely to be some trials worth conquering,\u201d Colin Leggett wrote in his review of the first two episodes (titled \u201cSeekest Thou the Road\u201d and \u201cCircle Sewn with Fate Unlock Thy Hidden Gate\u201d) for <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/agatha-all-along-episode-1-2-review\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/gamerant.com\/agatha-all-along-episode-1-2-review\/\">Game Rant<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/reviews\/agatha-all-along-review\/1900-6418289\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gamespot.com\/reviews\/agatha-all-along-review\/1900-6418289\/\">GameSpot<\/a><\/em>\u2018s Phil Owen\u00a0wrote in his review, \u201cThrough these first four episodes, <em>Agatha All Along<\/em> feels different. It\u2019s got lots of setups and payoffs and foreshadowing for further developments down the line. For example, Episodes 2 and 3 are full of little tidbits about Alice and her mom, and then in Episode 4 those details become the focus of their trial. A typical MCU TV show would save those details for the episode they\u2019re most relevant in, but <em>Agatha All Along<\/em> creator Jac Schaeffer and her writing staff were able to do it right through the first half of this season.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cBut after the chaos of the past few years of the MCU, and with the main franchise story still in the process of being completely reworked as we go, it\u2019s not easy to have faith that <em>Agatha All Along<\/em> will stick its landing,\u201d Owen continued. \u201cSo many of these MCU TV shows are fun for a while and then utterly fall apart at the end. But the foundation that these first four episodes have laid down is impressive, and though I don\u2019t have\u00a0<em>faith<\/em>\u00a0that it\u2019s going to end well, I do at least have reason to\u00a0<em>hope<\/em>\u00a0that it might.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    TV critic Kelly Lawler wrote for <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/tv\/2024\/09\/18\/agatha-all-along-review-marvel-disney-plus\/75248149007\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/tv\/2024\/09\/18\/agatha-all-along-review-marvel-disney-plus\/75248149007\/\">USA Today<\/a><\/em>, \u201c<em>Agatha<\/em> is trying to do too many things at once. Buried deep somewhere is a good horror series about Agatha\u2019s journey with real scares and perhaps a mythology that\u2019s understandable. But in true Marvel fashion, more and more\u00a0<em>stuff<\/em>\u00a0just keeps getting piled on the base story. A famous actor here. A new song from the <em>Frozen <\/em>writers over there. A full season premiere re-doing <em>WandaVision <\/em>just to start off with everything as confusing as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Charles Pulliam-Moore wrote in his review for <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/9\/18\/24246402\/agatha-all-along-review\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2024\/9\/18\/24246402\/agatha-all-along-review\">The Verge<\/a><\/em>, <em>Agatha All Along\u00a0<\/em>is still a late-stage Marvel show, meaning that there are moments where your appreciation of what it\u2019s doing will hinge on how familiar you are with the larger cinematic universe\u2019s most recent events. But for viewers who\u2019ve been following along and holding out hope for the studio to get back into putting out genuinely weird and playful riffs on the comics rather than hyping up the next big event,\u00a0<em>Agatha All Along\u00a0<\/em>should be a delight to watch \u2014 especially once it starts revealing its big secrets later this fall.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    For <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/agatha-all-along-premiere-review-disney-plus\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ign.com\/articles\/agatha-all-along-premiere-review-disney-plus\">IGN<\/a><\/em>, Joshua Yehl\u00a0wrote in his review, \u201c<em>Agatha All Along<\/em> is a seriously sinister good time that brings back the MCU\u2019s very own wicked witch of Westview, Agatha Harkness. The show is a worthy successor to <em>WandaVision<\/em>, not only because it gives us more TV parodies and catchy songs, but also its sharp writing, intriguing mysteries, and colorful characters. With Agatha now the main character, Kathryn Hahn gets to really sink her teeth into the role and show us what her dark and devious witch is all about.
