Makoto Shinkai<\/strong>\u2018s melancholic anime<\/a> film 5 Centimeters Per Second<\/em> is getting adapted into a live-action Japanese movie starring Hokuto Matsumura<\/strong><\/a> of the SixTONES idol group. It will be released in fall 2025.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Yoshiyuki Okuyama<\/strong> (\u201cKick Back\u201d music video), who made his film directorial debut with the upcoming anthology At The Bench<\/em><\/a>, is directing the adaptation. Ayako Suzuki<\/strong> (Ai ni Ranbou<\/em>) is penning the script<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

5 Centimeters Per Second\u00a0<\/em>was released in 2007 and had a runtime of 63 minutes. The romance drama unfolds over three connected chapters, beginning in the 1990s and ending in the 21st century.<\/span><\/p>\n

Shinkai has self-authored a novelization of\u00a05 Centimeters Per Second<\/em>. The anime also inspired a manga and the novel 5 Centimeters Per Second: One More Side<\/em>, which depicts the viewpoint of Akari.<\/span><\/p>\n

Another of Shinkai\u2019s films, the 2016 phenomenon Your Name<\/em>, has a Hollywood remake in the works. News<\/a> of the remake first surfaced in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n
