{"id":639317,"date":"2024-09-24T01:39:05","date_gmt":"2024-09-23T22:39:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/crypto-scammers-hack-openais-press-account-on-x\/"},"modified":"2024-09-24T01:39:05","modified_gmt":"2024-09-23T22:39:05","slug":"crypto-scammers-hack-openais-press-account-on-x","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/crypto-scammers-hack-openais-press-account-on-x\/","title":{"rendered":"#Crypto scammers hack OpenAI&#8217;s press account on X"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">OpenAI\u2019s official press account on X <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ears to have been compromised by the same cryptocurrency scammers who did the same with company leadership in previous months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Late Monday afternoon, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OpenAINewsroom\">OpenAI Newsroom<\/a>, an account OpenAI recently created to spotlight product- and policy-related announcements, posted about a supposedly new OpenAI-branded blockchain token, \u201c$OPENAI.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re very happy to announce $OPEANAI [sic]: the gap between Al and blockchain <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a>,\u201d the post read. \u201cAll OpenAI users are eligible to claim a piece of $OPENAI\u2019s initial supply. And just three months ago, the accounts of OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki and OpenAI researcher Jason Wei were hacked and used to publish scam posts identical to the post on the OpenAI <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>room account today. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coinspeaker, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coinspeaker.com\/openai-cto-twitter-account-crypto\/\">reporting<\/a> on the hack of Murati\u2019s account last June, said that the scammers used a \u201ccrypto drainer\u201d tool that would funnel all the NFTs and tokens that victims had in their wallets to the scammers\u2019 wallet once they signed into the fake OpenAI site. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other high-profile X accounts <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.darkreading.com\/cyberattacks-data-breaches\/mandiant-s-x-twitter-account-hacked-to-promote-crypto-scam\">belonging<\/a> to tech companies and celebrities have been hacked in recent years to promote crypto scams. In perhaps the most infamous example, in 2020, hackers targeted accounts belonging to Apple, Elon Musk and Joe Biden to post the address of a bitcoin wallet with the claim that the amount of any payments made to the address would be doubled and sent back. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Americans lost $5.6 billion to cryptocurrency scams in 2023, a 45% increase from 2022, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/tech\/americans-losing-more-money-crypto-134456058.html#:~:text=Americans%20lost%20%245.6%20billion%20to,to%20crypto%20fraud%20last%20year.\">according<\/a> to the FBI. 2024 is on track to be as bad \u2014 or worse. More than 50,000 scams were reported through the first half of this year, costing consumers close to $2.5 billion, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fool.com\/research\/crypto-investment-scams\/\">per<\/a> the FTC.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
