\n Original Saturday Night Live<\/em> castmember Jane Curtin admitted that she didn\u2019t have a lot of hope for the show\u2019s first season in 1975.<\/p>\n

\n Ahead of the NBC sketch comedy series<\/a>\u2019 season 50 premiere on Saturday, the actress-comedia<\/a>n spoke with The New York Times<\/a><\/em> and looked back at SNL<\/em>\u2018s first broadcast on Oct. 11, 1975, noting that the whole night felt like a blur.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI never really paid much attention to the audience,\u201d Curtin recalled. \u201cI thought, well, anybody that\u2019s watching this must be really stupid. It gave me a lot of angst. So the way I dealt with it was, I was in this bubble, and we had a job to do within the bubble.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Even in the weeks leading up to the big debut episode, the 3rd Rock from the Sun <\/em>actress faced a lot of anxiety, questioning why she was even on the show.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI was quiet and nobody paid any attention to me. I didn\u2019t know how to pitch. I had never had to do that in my life,\u201d she recounted of that time, but eventually trusted she would have roles on opening night. \u201cI figured, well, they hired me. They\u2019re paying me. So it would be foolish of them not to use me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Later, once the show started gaining attention, the Kate & Allie<\/em> alum said her life outside of SNL<\/em> completely changed. \u201cYou\u2019d pass by people and they would shake,\u201d she said. \u201cThey had a physical reaction to you, because they could feel the energy behind what was happ<\/a>ening at 30 Rock. And it was very, very exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Curtin, one of the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players, starred alongside Dan Aykroyd,\u00a0John Belushi,\u00a0Chevy Chase,\u00a0Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman,\u00a0Gilda Radner, Michael O\u2019Donoghue and George Coe in the first season. She stayed with SNL<\/em> until 1980 before finding success with other shows.<\/p>\n

\n Curtin is also being portrayed by Kim Matula in Jason Reitman\u2019s film\u00a0Saturday Night<\/em>, which dramatizes the 90 minutes leading up to the first broadcast of the sketch comedy show. The movie opens wide on Oct. 11.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
