\n Backlash against the French film \u201cCuties\u201d continues to escalate, with objectors now demanding Netflix be canceled in response to the movie\u2019s perceived sexualization of children.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnbelievable that they released \u2018Cuties\u2019. So child porn is ok now Netflix? Raise your hand if you agree this is disgusting,\u201d wrote one Twitter<\/a> user, using the hashtag #CancelNetflix.<\/p>\n

The Twitter campaign against the streaming giant follows its release in August of a heavily criticized trailer and poster for the flick. The online outrage continues despite Netflix releasing a statement saying \u201cwe\u2019re deeply sorry for the inapp<\/a>ropriate artwork that we used\u201d to promote the film.<\/p>\n

\u201cNetflix is comfortable with this. Plenty of people will defend it. This is where our culture is at,\u201d tweeted one critic Wednesday alongside a clip from the film.<\/p>\n

Many are accusing Netflix of angling promotional materials to be about the cast\u2019s sexuality more than the movie\u2019s actual plot.<\/p>\n

\u201cEleven-year-old Amy starts to rebel against her conservative family\u2019s traditions when she becomes fascinated with a free-spirited dance crew,\u201d reads the film\u2019s current Netflix description.<\/p>\n

The original summary, however, was reportedly much more salacious, reading \u201cAmy, 11, becomes fascinated with a twerking dance crew. Hoping to join them, she starts to explore her femininity, defying her family\u2019s traditions.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of this writing, over 598,000 people have signed a Change.org petition titled \u201cCancel Netflix subscription,\u201d accusing the film of exploiting children, showing underage girls \u201cdressed provocatively, dancing sexually\u201d and being rated \u201conly for adult viewers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The movie, which also goes by \u201cMignonnes,\u201d was written and directed by Ma\u00efmouna Doucour\u00e9 who, like main character Amy, is French, with parents born in Senegal. Doucour\u00e9 was inspired to create the film after attending an amateur talent show in Paris.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were these girls onstage dressed in a really sexy fashion in short, transparent clothes,\u201d the first-time director told ScreenDaily. \u201cThey danced in a very sexually suggestive manner. There also happened to be a number of African mothers in the audience. I was transfixed, watching with a mixture of shock and admiration. I asked myself if these young girls understood what they were doing.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
