\n The editorial director who helped bogus-black college professor Jessica Krug publish a book said she is \u201csickened, angered, and saddened\u201d by the years of being lied to \u2014 and is donating proceeds from the book to cheated non-white scholars.<\/p>\n

Gisela Fosado, the editorial director at Duke University Press, said Thursday she now feels guilty about helping the disgraced former African history professor publish her book, \u201cFugitive Modernities: Kisama and the Politics of Freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a blog on her company\u2019s website, Fosado said she needed time \u201cprocessing\u201d Krug\u2019s \u201cdecades-long fraudulent and hurtful app<\/a>ropriation of a Black and Latinx identity\u201d \u2014 and how she abused \u201cfunding and opportunities that were earmarked for non-white scholars.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been sickened, angered, and saddened by the many years that she deployed gross racial stereotypes to build her fake identity, and the way that she coupled her lies with a self-righteous policing of racial politics within the Black and Latinx circles that she intruded upon,\u201d Fosado wrote in a post on her company\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

From the beginning of their relationship, Krug told Fosado that her surname was pronounced \u201cCruz\u201d \u2014 claiming it was a \u201ctranscription mistake\u201d when her \u201cgrandparents came to this country from the Caribbean,\u201d the editorial director wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe also repeated other details that I now know to be false about her identity and her past,\u201d she said of the professor who this week quit her job at George Washington University amid the firestorm of her confessing that she is white.<\/p>\n

That confessional left everyone who worked with her \u201cgrappling with several layers of anger and hurt,\u201d Fosado wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is the personal pain of having someone impersonate your own identity in the most racist way possible, through caricatures and stereotypes,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s also the shameful sense that, as someone who labored to support her work as her acquisition editor, I helped publish the work of someone who, early in her career, took funding and other opportunities that were earmarked for non-white scholars,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cKrug\u2019s scholarship may not have ever existed without the funding that was inseparable from her two decades of lies.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krug\u2019s book \u201cdid not generate a profit\u201d and its \u201cexpenses were more than its revenues,\u201d Fosado said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite that, Duke University Press is committed to moving all proceeds from the book to a fund that will support the work of Black and Latinx scholars,\u201d the editorial director announced.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
