href=\"https:\/\/vanitypl8jetskimusic.bandcamp.com\/track\/pt-loser\">VANITY PL8<\/a>&#8216;s Anastasiya Bobrova grew up in Yakutsk, the coldest city on Earth, on the fourth floor of an apartment block surrounded by a thick layer of Siberian permafrost. Her paternal grandpa was a German P.O.W. sentenced to hard labor at a nearby gulag, while her maternal grandfather was a well-known poet. Placed in his care as a toddler, she spent her childhood in the cold until her mother returned when she was nine, with her new Ukrainian step-dad and a one-way ticket to suburban Utah.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-264568\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            At this point, the VANITY PL8 songwriter can\u2019t help but laugh at the absurdity of her own upbringing, recalling an  adolescence spent mud-trucking, riding motocross, and going to the rodeo. Her expression softens when she talks about those years, thinking about the \u201cnostalgia of that fucking reckless, suburban, haphazard, sun-soaked, fun environment,\u201d and how it was \u201ccomplete Woodstock \u201899 vibes.\u201d She deepens the connection even further by mentioning her teenage love of that festival\u2019s headliners Limp Bizkit and Sugar Ray, whose catchy hooks and pop-punk melodies influenced the sound of \u201cPT Loser,\u201d the lead single from VANITY PL8\u2019s debut <i>Bikini Daycare<\/i> EP.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-264567\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left embed\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"PT Loser\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/g7_E2zk99YU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-264569\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Alongside partner and VANITY PL8 producer Brandon Pierce, the couple never planned to have a project together. Instead, it started organically, with Bobrova writing \u201cPT Loser,\u201d a scathing diss track disguised as a radio-friendly sparkler about a \u201cspineless princess trauma-hoarder.\u201d  Melodic yet oddly menacing, it\u2019s a catchy carousel of jangling tambourines and new romantic synths alongside Bobrova\u2019s anthemic vocals, smirking as she pointedly asks, \u201cwhat\u2019s gonna be your next mood disorder?\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cPT Loser,\u201d however, is just one facet of VANITY PL8\u2019s sound, which is defined by its  melancholy and gritty production. Between Bobrova and Pierce, they cite a wide range of influences ranging from The Replacements\u2019 garage pop-punk to Massive Attack\u2019s otherworldly <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>-hop to Tom Petty\u2019s expressive storytelling, as exemplified by <i>Bikini Daycare<\/i> track \u201cMiss Universe.\u201d With a sound that\u2019s reminiscent of Hole\u2019s unfiltered grunge mixed with an industrial-tinged Garbage chart-topper, \u201cMiss Universe\u201d is a much darker rumination on Bobrova\u2019s internal struggle with manic depression, suicidal ideation, and substance use. Through allusions to the publicly broadcast struggles of <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Damnthatsinteresting\/comments\/1eqykt7\/angelina_jolie_once_tried_to_hire_a_hitman_to\/?share_id=WDbuLo6GMF1jS1AbX16Oi&amp;utm_content=1&amp;utm_medium=ios_app&amp;utm_name=ioscss&amp;utm_source=share&amp;utm_term=4\">famous women like Angelina Jolie<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/anna-nicole-smith-death-legacy-facts-7496141\">Anna Nicole Smith<\/a>, \u201cMiss Universe\u201d is an abrasive, angst-ridden grunge track that radiates a sort of pain that feels achingly familiar. After moving to Salt Lake City, she was the bassist and sole woman in a small shoegaze band, an experience that took a toll on her self-esteem. Within a few years, the girl who used to beat the boys at motocross had become a shrinking violet, maintaining her distance from others by adopting a self-serious outlook and an aura of aloofness. She felt like \u201csomething just clicked\u201d a few years ago, though, recalling her desire to \u201chave a different outlook on life&#8221; and to be more friendly and easygoing.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>            Bobrova smiles over at Pierce, who she met around the same time. They&#8217;ve been together ever since, she says, joking about two \u201cgluttons for punishment\u201d that helped each other enjoy life and \u201cnot be fucking sad.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>            \u201cIt was like, \u2018What\u2019s wrong with fun fucking hooks? And now I want music that commands me to either sing or dance along to. But Bobrova explains that it\u2019s more about no longer \u201ctrying to police my words\u201d for the sake of other people\u2019s feelings. Like everyone else, she has the innate right to process her own hurt and protect herself, especially if she feels like someone is weaponizing her empathy against her. Almost im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely, he echoes Bobrova\u2019s praise before calling her \u201cthe best possible partner to have as a mouthpiece.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>            But more importantly, she\u2019s the first collaborator who\u2019s ever \u201cinspired [him] to come from this angle of vulnerability,\u201d he says.
