\n Heather Graham recalls stepping out of her comfort zone to take on her role in 1997\u2019s Boogie Nights<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n The actress, who plays Rollergirl in Paul Thomas Anderson\u2019s porn-industry drama, recently said on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum<\/em> podcast<\/a> that she initially avoided projects involving sexual content.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI grew up in a religious family, and they were like, \u2018Don\u2019t do anything with any sexual content,’\u201d Graham explained. \u201cBut try to be a woman in Hollywood in your early 20s, mid-20s, and then to try to get no roles with any sexual content \u2014 it\u2019s like impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n The Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me <\/em>star ultimately decided to go against her family\u2019s wishes and not limit her opportunities in Hollywood.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI had turned down a few things where there was sexual content, and then I saw other people, having really good careers,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI just said, \u2018Screw it. I wanna do this. The [Boogie Nights<\/em>] script<\/a> is amazing.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n While \u201cthey had originally offered that role to somebody really famous who turned it down,\u201d Graham said she eventually landed the part, which served as a \u201cturning point in my career.\u201d (Gwyneth Paltrow previously told<\/a> Howard Stern that she turned down the role of Rollergirl.)<\/p>\n

\n As Graham wasn\u2019t used to filming nude scenes at the time, host Michael Rosenbaum also asked her what that first experience was like. \u201cIt was terrifying,\u201d she responded. \u201cAs a woman, I have to say, even if you go, \u2018Okay. Well, maybe I know sometimes men find me attractive,\u2019 you look at all the flaws. You go, \u2018Oh my god. They\u2019re gonna see these flaws.\u2019\u00a0 I remember just sitting in my trailer, like, being like, \u2018Oh my God. I\u2019m so scared.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n But once the Chosen Family <\/em>actress got into her character\u2019s mindset, that\u2019s when she found the courage to go out and give her best performance in the film, starring Mark Wahlberg and Julianne Moore.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cYou just try to get out of your own head and just be, like, \u2018What is the character thinking? I\u2019m just gonna be this character,’\u201d she recalled. \u201cI don\u2019t wanna be like, \u2018Heather Graham feels nervous about this moment.\u2019 I want it to be like, \u2018I\u2019m Brandy in this scene, and this is what I do. Oh, this isn\u2019t a big deal and these people are my friends and my family. This is part of our life.\u2019 I was just trying to think about it as the character would think about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Overall, Graham had a positive experience filming the movie. She added, \u201cMy role was so fun, I had such a great time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
