Technically 7,000, but a couple thousand of those didn&#8217;t seem quite right. Those that passed first inspection by his executive producer Synthetic graduated from FL Studio to DropBox, batched out in packs of 100, 200, 400, and then were submitted. The ones that weren\u2019t all the way there yet got sent back with specs for Synthetic\u2019s 20-strong producer collective Hologram to overhaul. Or, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/yeat\/?hl=en\">Yeat<\/a> simply requested the stems so he could rework things to his liking. How many of these beats evolved into full-fledged songs is anyone&#8217;s guess. Manager <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/zackbia\/?hl=en\">Zack Bia<\/a> says he&#8217;ll occasionally wake up at &#8220;7 in the morning my time, 4 in the morning on the West Coast&#8221; to FaceTime calls from the Portland r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er, who\u2019s just had an idea in a dream and recorded it on his bedside MacBook. Songs are recorded quickly and instinctually, then set aside. &#8220;I never touch anything after it&#8217;s done,&#8221; Yeat says.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-264996\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            His approach to tracklisting was similarly intuitive, though he admits, &#8220;This time it [took] longer than it normally ever has.&#8221; &#8220;That&#8217;s because you&#8217;ve been leaning into it,&#8221; Bia chimes in. \u201cThis one&#8217;s more a little bit more curated,\u201d Yeat agrees. \u201cI wanted everything to feel seamless, but not actually [be] seamless.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            The pair are calling me from the back of a dimly lit vehicle in Amsterdam, T-minus one hour to showtime, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>ing &#8220;straight from the plane to the venue.&#8221; Yeat isn\u2019t wearing a mask, just a black Supreme hat, though I only occasionally catch a glimpse of his face as he largely stays off camera. His new album <i><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/yeat.lnk.to\/LYFESTYLE\">LYFESTYLE<\/a><\/i> drops in four days, and he&#8217;s agreed to speak with The FADER for a rare glimpse into his creative process.<\/p>\n<p>            This is unusual in itself. The 24-year-old rapper born Noah Olivier Smith is notoriously press averse, historically liable to answer questions with inscrutable koans or suggest cover-story interviews be conducted via text message. Who cares about his childhood? We skip over the early days of Slayworld, and how he ended up signing with Bia. If Yeat has advice on relationships, saying no to drugs, or alien encounters, I don\u2019t ask. Where his most recent album, <i><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/1jXYc5gip5tqCTDOotfY5L\">2093<\/a><\/i>, was the product of newfound sobriety and IRL recording sessions (\u201cWe had a vineyard in Oregon and we invited all the producers there so they could come see things through your eyes,\u201d Bia says), <i>LYFESTYLE<\/i> is the handiwork of a locked-in ascetic.<\/p>\n<p>            \u201c<i>LYFESTYLE<\/i> [is] basically just my normal rap shit,\u201d Yeat says. \u201cIt\u2019s not futuristic, it\u2019s not like a whole different world.\u201d \u201cBut it\u2019s the most polished,\u201d Bia interjects. \u201cYeah it\u2019s the most polished I\u2019ve ever came with the rap shit,\u201d Yeat agrees.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cNoah&#8217;s music-making process is so insulated because he makes music only by himself,\u201d Bia adds. \u201cThere&#8217;s no outside noise when he&#8217;s actually making music. Even when I&#8217;m with him, he&#8217;ll be like, \u2018Okay, I&#8217;m gonna go make music now, you guys can leave.\u2019\u201d Even for bigger collaborations with Childish Gambino, Yeat would rather cut demos in the studio and finish them at home.<\/p>\n<p>            It\u2019s here in isolation where he does his best work, smudging the lines between braggadocio and melancholy with abandon. Yeat tells me he rarely raps about his day-to-day emotions, preferring to burrow into the mood of an instrumental and freestyle his way out. \u201cI don\u2019t write anything, everything just comes off the top,\u201d he says. \u201cIt could feel very personal, but then four bars later I\u2019m shit talking. Much like his rap inspirations \u2014 Future, Young Thug, Lil Uzi Vert \u2014 leaks of his music are highly sought after, and his label is excusably (if overzealously) paranoid. Forget streaming apps like Untitled and SoundCloud; the best they can offer is a supervised listening session over Zoom at the start of October. On the other end of the line is Patrick Basler, the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> manager of Bia\u2019s boutique label Field Trip Records, who takes me through roughly half of the album.<\/p>\n<p>            <i>LYFESTYLE<\/i> is a return to high-octane form for Yeat, closer in sound and structure to his 2021 breakout <i><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/3ZKEPJwhLcpUfYPMIsC4PF\">Up 2 M\u00eb<\/a><\/i> than his more recent albums. He\u2019s trading bars with old friend Summrs over the careening \u201cGo2Work;\u201d pitter-pattering through the blitzkrieg of \u201cSpeedball;\u201d bragging, \u201cDiamonds on me cunt, watches on me cunt\u201d on the hook to \u201cU Don\u2019t Know Lyfe.\u201d There\u2019s also some of the genre omnivory that marked his last album, from the throbbing dubstep-meets-Soft Cell \u201cGone 4 A Min\u201d to the skaiwater-esque pop-punk flair of \u201cForever Again.\u201d But from opener \u201cGeek Time\u201d to late album highlights \u201cFLYTROOP\u201d and \u201cGod Talkin Shhh,\u201d Yeat is clearly back in his rap bag, expanding and expounding upon his particular strain of rage music.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Although he began working on this album following February 2023\u2019s <i><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/25Uddgldy3slnChqKqHsIM\">Aft\u00ebrlyfe<\/a><\/i>, most of the music is new, recorded in the wake of <i>2093<\/i>. Yeat has never been a critical darling, lambasted for albums considered overlong, underbaked, or simply too homogenous, though that hasn\u2019t slowed his ascendant star. <i>Afterlyfe<\/i> peaked at no. 6 on the Billboard 200, and <i>2093<\/i> debuted at no. 2. [And] the feedback on that was very mixed,\u201d Synthetic explains. \u201cWhen we were trying to craft this album, we wanted to make sure that we were delivering what the fans wanted but also creating something that the fans hadn&#8217;t heard yet but felt familiar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            You probably don\u2019t know Synthetic\u2019s name, but your favorite producer does, and you\u2019ve definitely heard his work this year: \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ek6dQ9IGOvQ\">Black &amp; Tan<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oSca__bu0is\">SLUT ME OUT 2<\/a>,\u201d \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ou7c8Sg9YVg\">Think U the Shit (Fart)<\/a>,\u201d and more all feature a Synthetic co-production credit, thanks to his main hustle selling loops and kits. Synthetic will take that initial idea and put together a playlist \u201cfrom different genres, not just rap\u201d to further flesh out the vision for Hologram\u2019s producers. In lieu of specific requests, the collective iterates on various prompts from Synthetic himself: \u201ca beat that sounds like Crystal Castles with crazy drums\u201d or \u201ca Travis Scott-inspired beat with <i>LYFESTYLE<\/i> elements.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            \u201cHe&#8217;s a beat fucking factory,\u201d Yeat says approvingly. \u201cThis guy could pump out, any given day, 400 beats, [and] I would listen to every single one of them.\u201d That trust reflects the pair\u2019s easy rapport and explains how such a disjointed creative process can yield such coherent results. It\u2019s like ear candy [&#8230;] You don\u2019t even notice it, but it actually makes it feel different.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cImagine a beat is at 95%,\u201d Bia adds. \u201cHis little contribution will take it to 100 [and] put it way more in his pocket.\u201d One example can be found on the intro of \u201cBe Quiet,\u201d which is peppered with <i>FAWKKKK<\/i>s from an unexpected underground rapper. \u201cIt\u2019s like a production texture,\u201d Bia muses. \u201cWithout the \u2018fawk\u2019 it sounds empty. It\u2019s almost like [he\u2019s] an instrument, it really filled out the beat.\u201d \u201cAt the time, I had someone else in mind for the verse,\u201d Yeat explains. \u201c[But] I just fucked with his energy, coming up straight based off himself.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265010\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left pull_quote\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"pull_quote\"><p>\u201cHe\u2019s a beat fucking factory. But today, Yeat\u2019s happy to clue me in on what he\u2019s been spinning recently: \u201cI\u2019ll go from Bossman Dlow to an Italian movie soundtrack. And then I\u2019ll go from that to fucking Deftones to The Smiths, and then I\u2019ll run it back and go Crystal Castles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            Sometimes, you can tease out these threads in specific songs, but dissecting Yeat albums is missing the point. In the aura economy, it\u2019s the gestalt that matters \u2014 the way these various influences filter and bleed into each other. Though his music lives at the other end of the decibel scale, it can feel almost ambient in nature, less about \u201cgetting a bar off\u201d than \u201csoundtracking your life.\u201d Certainly there\u2019s a cinematic scope to his music akin to the IMAX spectacle of Travis Scott, Kanye West, Metro Boomin, and more; Synthetic compares Hologram\u2019s production work for Yeat to assembling a symphony, the way layered instruments and chord progressions stack into a dense, delectable whole. Yeat\u2019s proven himself as a rapper, but <i>LYFESTYLE<\/i> makes the case he\u2019s also a savvy composer.<\/p>\n<p>            When I ask Synthetic to compare the first version of <i>LYFESTYLE<\/i> to its final form, he tells me the sound \u201cmatured [and] got a lot more serious;\u201d the first iteration was more disorganized, less cohesive. \u201cIt\u2019s bringing a lot of sounds from his old stuff,\u201d Synthetic tells me. \u201cI think that&#8217;s why a lot of people like this project a lot. There&#8217;s a lot of hype and patience because it feels nostalgic almost, but it&#8217;s fresh. It&#8217;s like we took some of the best elements from his past trap projects and we just made them even better and newer for a <i>LYFESTYLE<\/i> V2.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265005\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            \u201cAs we call you, we\u2019re literally amidst a European tour, seeing some of the most beautiful places, basking in this incredible lifestyle,\u201d Bia says of Yeat\u2019s current moment. \u201cAnd that\u2019s why the music you hear on this next project is fun, it\u2019s braggadocious, it\u2019s the next level up of all the rap shit everyone knows and loves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            As for Yeat?
