When it comes to juggling married life, work and kids, Mila Kunis has some advice: \u201cThere\u2019s no such thing as balance, so don\u2019t strive for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress spoke at a Q&A in Santa Monica, Calif., on Wednesday following the screening of her latest film, Goodrich<\/em>. She addressed a fan in the audience who shared that he and his wife would soon be new parents and wondered how to balance family life with work.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust do the best you can with what you\u2019ve got,\u201d Kunis said. \u201cBe nice to each other. Be kind to each other. Put each other first, and then put the kid first to the both of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kunis has been married to her former That \u201970s Show<\/em> co-star Ashton Kutcher since 2015. The pair share two children \u2014 daughter Wyatt, 9, and son Dimitri, 7.<\/p>\n

In recent weeks, the couple\u2019s relationship has come under scrutiny following resurfaced videos and social media<\/a> posts about Kutcher\u2019s former friendship with embattled music mogul Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs<\/a>. A source told People<\/a> that rumors of the couple\u2019s impending separation were \u201cabsolutely ridiculous and false.\u201d They’ve been spotted together<\/a> on numerous occasions in recent weeks.<\/p>\n

In Goodrich<\/em>, which opens in theaters Oct. 18 and is directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer (the daughter of filmmaker Nancy Meyers, who moderated the Q&A), Kunis plays Grace, the eldest daughter of Andy Goodrich (Michael Keaton). Grace, who\u2019s pregnant, has a complicated relationship with her art gallery owner father. He has remarried and is also dad to 9-year-old twins who need his attention more than ever after their mom (Laura Benanti) checks herself into rehab.<\/p>\n

This dynamic is deeply personal for Meyers-Shyer, who revealed that the film is based on her own relationship with her screenwriter father, Charles Shyer (Father of the Bride, The Parent Trap<\/em>).<\/p>\n

\u201cMy father remarried and had a second set of kids, and I had a really complicated relationship toward that,\u201d Meyers-Shyer said. \u201cI think sometimes as writers, our way of processing is through writing things and then kind of understanding how you feel about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the daughter of two filmmakers, the writer-director said that making her own films was \u201ca unique experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meyers-Shyer recalled how people \u201cin random cities\u201d would app<\/a>roach her parents when she was growing up and say to them, \u201cThat was my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat’s such a wonderful thing, I think,\u201d she said, \u201cSuch a great compliment to my parents as people say to them, \u2018I watch your movies<\/a> over and over and over again,\u2019 and I don’t think you do that unless that movie provides you with a lot of comfort.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kunis said that Meyers-Shyer\u2019s authenticity came through in the writing.<\/p>\n

While the actress revealed that her own parents are still married \u2014 \u201cI’m shocked that they are together,\u201d Kunis joked \u2014 she said that the dynamic between Grace and Andy \u201cfeels so real.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe things that she says to him are so deep and personal and intimate,\u201d Kunis said. \u201cI imagine that that is something that a lot of people that come from this situation are so desperate to say.\u201d<\/p>\n

Goodrich<\/em><\/strong> is in theaters Oct. 18.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
