Web hosting provider WP Engine has filed an injunction in a court in North California, asking it to intervene and restore its access to the <\/a>WordPress.org open-source repository. <\/p>\n

After WP Engine filed a lawsuit against WordPress co-creator Matt Mullenweg and Automattic last month, Mulleweng \u2014 who also owns WordPress.org \u2014 blocked the company\u2019s access to the open-source project. <\/p>\n

This also meant that WP Engine couldn\u2019t update its Advanced Custom Fields (ACF)\u00a0plug-in, which is used to create and customize their edit screens. Earlier this month, WordPress took control of ACF and forked it, citing developer guidelines<\/a>, which gives them control to change a plug-in \u00a0\u201cwithout developer consent, in the name of public safety.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the latest filing, WP Engine seeks to restore the \u201cstatus quo as it existed prior to September 20, 2024\u201d in terms of the company\u2019s access to the open-source repo.<\/p>\n

\u201cWPE respectfully requests that the Court issue a preliminary injunction restoring and preserving the status quo as it existed prior to Defendants\u2019 wrongful actions described above. The preliminary injunction requires no security because returning the situation to the status quo will have no negative effect on Defendants,\u201d the court filing read.<\/p>\n

The company added that these protections should also be extended to its affiliates, partners, employees, users, and customers.<\/p>\n

Notably, Mullenweg added a new checkbox to the WordPress.org contributor login, asking people to verify that they were not associated with WP Engine in any way earlier this month. At that time, contributors said that they were\u00a0banned from<\/a>\u00a0the community Slack<\/a>\u00a0for criticizing the move.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
