J.D. Vance rallied in the Democratic stronghold of Pittsburgh Thursday, while Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz barnstormed in rural red Lawrence County Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>Though neither event seemed to attract voters from the opposing camp, attendees believe the candidates\u2019 Rust Belt and rural identities could make up for weakness at the top of the tickets in western Pennsylvania. <\/p>\n<p>With polls showing Harris just 1 point ahead of Trump, Pennsylvania remains too close to call \u2014\u00a0and up for grabs.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><figcaption>J.D. Vance rallies Trump voters in downtown Pittsburgh. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Vance made a direct <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>eal to Steel City\u2019s labor roots.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>If his union Democrat grandparents were alive today, he said they\u2019d see \u201cthe Democratic party of Kamala Harris has left them behind, and they are welcome in the Republican Party of Donald J. Trump,\u201d as he boasted 65% of Pennsylvania Teamsters support Trump.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cathy Collins, a Pittsburgh special-needs life coach, explained the Democratic drubbing. \u201cThe reason the union workers don\u2019t go for them is they don\u2019t have jobs,\u201d she told The Post after the rally. She said her Democratic boilermaker friend is voting Republican for the first time because permitting restrictions have killed projects and jobs.<\/p>\n<p>But the senator has other appeal too.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVance covers a lot of ground. He\u2019s a Yale graduate so he can connect with the intellect,\u201d Scott Sigmund, a retired IT worker who moved to Pittsburgh from Tennessee, told The Post, suggesting Vance can speak the language of college-educated voters in the city known for its universities and hospitals.<\/p>\n<p>Steven Royer likes how the candidate deflects attacks and handles <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> interviews, citing Vance calling out ABC\u2019s Martha Raddatz for downplaying the threat of migrant gangs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s righteous,\u201d Royer told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Collins added Vance articulates Trump\u2019s economic and border policies without the brashness.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Steven Royer (left) and his brother Larry join Scott Sigmund and Cathy Collins (right) at Vance\u2019s rally. <span class=\"credit\">Ethan Dodd\/NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cHe gives a behind the scenes of what Trump will be doing,\u201d she said, calling him a new and improved Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat Trump lacks, J.D. has.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That applies to Vance\u2019s humble origins: raised by his grandmother in Rust Belt Ohio because his mother was addicted to opioids.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo me, Vance is us. I can relate to him. I can\u2019t really relate to Trump,\u201d Sigmund said. \u201cI never knew my father, was abused by my stepdad, enlisted right out of high school,\u201d he explained. Vance joined the Marine Corps after graduating high school. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s the epitome of America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Collins said Vance\u2019s roots in rural Kentucky would also help him in the rural counties surrounding Pittsburgh such as Washington County.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re talking farm country, horse country. They had a hard time with drugs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a good old country boy,\u201d said Phyllis Hader, a retired nurse from rural Westmoreland County to Pittsburgh\u2019s east. \u201cHe didn\u2019t grow up spoiled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vance makes up where Trump\u2019s style turns off conservative voters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not a big one for calling anybody names,\u201d Collins said, saying that gives the left ammunition to attack Trump.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Cathy Collins explains how Trump has rubbed some conservatives the wrong way. <span class=\"credit\">Ethan Dodd\/NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI love him, but he hurt himself,\u201d Collins said, \u201cIf he had been more careful with what he said, he wouldn\u2019t have so many problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though Vance does not bring huge crowds, she said he tempers Trump.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJ.D. is going to help the Republican Party overall,\u201d she said. \u201cWe want Vance as president next time around.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While Vance went to the city this week, Walz went to red farm country in Volant to pick off those very voters Trump\u2019s brash style has alienated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re trying to appeal to rural voters,\u201d said Corinne, a professor from nearby Harlansburg who withheld her last name to protect her job.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Tim Walz rallies Harris supporters at Telesz Farms in Volant. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Walz told the crowd of more than 100 about his upbringing driving tractors and shooting guns in small-town Nebraska.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has values that could appeal to someone who doesn\u2019t like Trump but doesn\u2019t think there\u2019s a good option,\u201d Corinne said, referring to Harris.<\/p>\n<p>Corinne left the Republican Party and started voting for Democrats when Trump first ran in 2015, and her Republican parents still can\u2019t vote for Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey never liked him. They\u2019re conservative Christians,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic Party is \u201cbecoming an inclusive tent,\u201d she said, but her parents didn\u2019t join her at the Walz rally, which was a blue island in a county that went 62% for Trump in 2016: \u201cIt\u2019s hard to change after so many years.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Joe Logan says Tim Walz understands farm policy.  <span class=\"credit\">Ethan Dodd\/NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But Joe Logan, Ohio Farmers Union president, is glad Walz came.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t expect to get any votes from anybody if you don\u2019t show up,\u201d said the Democrat, noting most farmers are voting for Trump because they disapprove of the Biden-Harris administration opening the border.<\/p>\n<p>He likes Walz, he said, because the candidate understands how corporate consolidation in the food sector squeezes farmers but added they don\u2019t usually listen to those economic explanations.<\/p>\n<p>Rick Telesz learned that when he ran unsuccessfully against Republican Rep.
