The German government will provide half of the funding with \u20ac5bn in state aid, under the EU\u2019s Chips Act.<\/p>\n<p>The fab will produce semiconductors for automotive and industrial <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>lications. It\u2019s a joint project between the Taiwanese tech giant, the Netherlands\u2019 NXP, and Germany\u2019s Bosch and Infineon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey [TSMC] have started construction of the first fab in Dresden, they are already planning the next few fabs in the future for different market sectors as well,\u201d Cheng-wen <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-10-13\/tsmc-plans-more-chip-plants-in-europe-taiwan-official-says?embedded-checkout=true\">told Bloomberg TV<\/a> in a Monday interview.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ai.live.ft.com\/?utm_source=partner-emp&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=global_partner_event-registration_prospecting_bau_2024-future-of-ai-london_core&amp;utm_term=tnw\" data-event-category=\"Article\" data-event-action=\"In Article Block\" data-event-label=\"Join the Financial Times Future of AI Summit on November 6-7\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"ica-text__title\">Join the Financial Times Future of AI Summit on November 6-7<\/p>\n<p>In partnership with TNW, the Future of AI Summit explores the cutting edge of AI innovation and how it is being scaled for success and growth.<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Wu said that whether the company will increase its plants in Germany, or expand to other European countries, will depend on its market strategy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd whenever they do [expand], our government will help them establish joint research collaboration for them to continue developing new technologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to Bloomberg, TSMC said that it currently has no new investment plans and is focused on its existing global expansion projects.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Europes_need_for_foreign_investment_in_the_chip_sector\"><\/span>Europe\u2019s need for foreign investment in the chip sector<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The EU currently makes about 10% of the world\u2019s semiconductors. It\u2019s particularly strong in the production of chips for the automotive and industrial sectors, boasting well-established players such as NXP, Infineon, and STMicroelectronics.<\/p>\n<p>TSMC\u2019s upcoming plant is expected to further strengthen the EU\u2019s position in these industries. The fab is slated to reach an annual output of 480,000 silicon wafers once it is fully operational in 2029.<\/p>\n<p>However, the bloc is lagging behind in the production of advanced chips that power technologies such as AI and High Performance Computing (HPC).<\/p>\n<p>Intel\u2019s \u20ac30bn mega fab in Germany, which was destined to begin operations by 2028, would have helped fill this gap.<\/p>\n<p>TSMC\u2019s potential further expansion in Europe presents a ray of hope. \u201cThe most important market [for expansion] would be the AI market,\u201d said Wu.\n                        <\/p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
