\n A Ukrainian businessman and \u201cactive Russian agent\u201d who peddled dirt on Joe Biden and met with President Trump\u2019s attorney Rudy Giuliani last year is among four Russia-linked individuals hit with sanctions related to foreign interference in the US election.<\/p>\n

Andriy Derkach, a pro-Russian member of Kyiv\u2019s parliament, was sanctioned by the US Treasury Department on Thursday, accusing him of running a \u201ccovert influence campaign centered on cultivating false and unsubstantiated narratives\u201d about the Democratic nominee and his son, Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n

Described as an \u201cactive Russian agent for over a decade\u201d with \u201cclose connections\u201d to Russian intelligence, the Treasury accused Derkach of trying to undermine the upcoming November presidential election by pushing edited audio tapes and other unsupported information through the US media<\/a> and members of government.<\/p>\n

The businessman recently told Politico how he had sent Biden-related materials to members of Congress \u2014 creating alarm among Democrats as several GOP-led committees launched investigations into Hunter Biden\u2019s business interests in Ukraine while his father was VP.<\/p>\n

Derkach also met with former New York mayor and Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani in Kyiv in December last year to dig up dirt on Biden. Conservative cable network One American News<\/a> (OAN) documented the trip<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Fox News, Giuliani shared Derkach\u2019s claims that Biden was paid lobbying fees by Ukrainian gas company Burisma while he was the vice president, and it was Derkach who leaked phone conversations between Biden and then-Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko this May.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndrii Derkach and other Russian agents employ manipulation and deceit to attempt to influence elections in the United States and elsewhere around the world,\u201d Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States will continue to use all the tools at its disposal to counter these Russian disinformation campaigns and uphold the integrity of our election system.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
