The message was clear: the era of high-risk, big-budget productions is giving way to more practical, proven formats, both in <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>ed and non-scripted programming.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cPeople are looking for the tried and true,\u201d noted Lisa Kramer, president of international content licensing for Paramount Global Content Distribution, which found eager buyers for their proudly mainstream procedural line-up, which includes the Kathy Bates <em>Matlock<\/em> reboot, the <em>Elementry<\/em>-esque medical detective <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> <em>Watson<\/em> and two spin-offs of its world-conquering <em><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/ncis\/\" id=\"auto-tag_ncis_1\" data-tag=\"ncis\">NCIS<\/em> franchise<\/a>: the Euro-set <em>NCIS: Tony &amp; Ziva<\/em> and the prequel series <em>Origins<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>NCIS<\/em>, which has generated $4.5 billion for the studio, still has a lot of life left in it, with Kramer noting strong sales for the series\u2019 back catalog as well, with streaming companies eager to load up on a dependable procedural. \u201cThey want a large volume of episodes of a show which can reliably deliver an audience.\u201d Paramount recently inked a deal with German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 for some 1,000 episodes of <em>NCIS<\/em>, <em>NCIS: L.A.<\/em>, <em>NCIS: Hawaii,<\/em> and <em>NCIS: New Orleans<\/em>, for ProSieben\u2019s streaming outlet Joyn. TV chair Channing Dungey.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Basic economics also explains the shift. With U.S. outlets cutting their budgets, producers have to look abroad for financing. 75 to 80 percent of the budget of a major series now typically comes out of Europe, one veteran U.S. producer noted. And European buyers love proceedurals. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cIncreasingly, the market is being driven by what works internationally,\u201d noted Kramer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    With most buyers in super-saver mode, lower-cost reality and entertainment shows are in high demand, both from traditional broadcasters and, increasingly, from global streamers. Amazon MGM Studios turned its MIPCOM keynote into a love-in for Japanese comedy format <em>LOL: Last One Laughing<\/em>, which has become one of the most successful non-scripted formats of recent years and is Prime Video\u2019s most-watched title ever in several countries. The show, in which top co<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>ns try to make each other laugh, by whatever means necessary, is getting a U.K. version next year, produced by Banijay. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cWe are really seeing a conference between the broadcasters and the streamers in terms of the formats they want,\u201d said superindie Banijay\u2018s chief content officer Lucas Green. \u201cThe streamers are looking for reality, for <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a> shows, for entertainment shows. And soon, they\u2019ll be doing live event shows. There isn\u2019t the big distinction between the two [broadcast and streaming] that we used to see.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-image \/\/  \">\n<figure class=\"o-figure   size-large alignnone lrv-u-max-width-100p\" style=\"width:3000px\">\n<div class=\"c-lazy-image  \">\n<div class=\"lrv-a-crop-16x9\" style=\"padding-bottom:calc((2000\/3000)*100%);\">\n<p>                        <img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/GettyImages-2177995988.jpg?w=3000\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"\" data-lazy-sizes=\"\" height=\"2000\" width=\"3000\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div><figcaption class=\"c-figcaption  lrv-u-padding-tb-025\">\n<p>                    <span class=\"a-font-secondary-s lrv-u-margin-r-025\">Channing Dungey<\/span><\/p>\n<p>                                    <cite class=\"a-font-accent-uppercase-xs lrv-u-color-grey-dark\">Photo by Frazer Harrison\/WireImage<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Henrik Pabst of Germany\u2019s ProSiebenSat.1 uses the word \u201csuper streamer\u201d or, more awkwardly, \u201cbroad video on demand\u201d to describe this strategic convergence, driven by a decline in traditional linear television viewing and a steady rise in streaming consumption.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cLinear consumption is going down regularly, full stop, while VOD consumption is going up,\u201d says Pabst. \u201cIt\u2019s just a question of time before these two lines cross in terms of consumption, and when these two lines cross, you should have your right content strategy in place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    For ProSiebenSat.1, that means doubling down on formats that work well across all platforms \u2014 like hit competition reality show <em>Germany\u2019s Next Top Model <\/em>\u2014\u00a0the network recently extended its deal with <em>GNTM<\/em> host Heidi Klum for \u201cseveral years\u201d past the next, 20th, season of the show \u2014\u00a0and beefing up on digital rights for U.S. series that work on streaming, from <em>NCIS<\/em> to <em>The Mentalist<\/em> to <em>Friends<\/em>, while cutting back on original drama production and acquisitions of new U.S. series for its over-the-air networks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Judging by MIPCOM attendance numbers, which were down nearly 5 percent to 10,500, and footfall in the Palais \u2014 \u201cour booth was busy, but I\u2019d look down the aisle and could see straight through,\u201d noted Electric Entertainment\u2019s Dean Devlin \u2014\u00a0the recovery of the global TV business still a way to go.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    And it could get worse before it gets better. Speaking at a MIPCOM keynote, outgoing\u00a0Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra\u00a0said he expected \u201ca big shakeout\u201d in the next 18 to 24 months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cIt\u2019s going to be very chaotic, there are going to be mergers, consolidation, sales, bankruptcies, potentially,\u201d he said, \u201cThe streaming services will be profitable at some point, they may not be tremendously profitable, but they\u2019ll be profitable.
