Anime<\/a> production studio Gonzo<\/strong>, which has recently been fascinated with NFTs<\/a> after a long and messy history<\/a>, is teaming up the \u201cafro-anime\u201d-focused multimedia<\/a> company N Lite<\/strong> to produce two new projects executive produced by Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse<\/em> co-director Peter Ramsey<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to Variety<\/a>, one of these projects is a \u201clive-action\/anime hybrid feature\u201d titled Ripper<\/em>, which sees two detectives tracking \u201ca serial killer who took the lives of the women that each of them loved\u201d in post-World War 2 Japan. The other is Hotaru<\/em>, a \u201cswashbuckling sci-fi\/fantasy adventure series<\/a> about two star-crossed magic-wielding warriors bound by love and grief.\u201d\u00a0\u3000<\/span><\/p>\n

Aside from executive producing, Ramsey is co-writing Ripper<\/em>, which is created by N Lite\u2019s Head of Production Samantha Inoue Harte<\/strong> and the show\u2019s other co-writers Paul Paul Alvarado-Dykstra<\/strong> and Rafael Antonio Ruiz<\/strong>. The production company JuVee Productions<\/strong>, founded by actor Viola Davis<\/strong> and husband Julius Tennon<\/strong>, is also involved in the project. Two of JuVee\u2019s members are joining Ramsey and Gonzo CEO Shinichiro Ishikawa<\/strong> as executive producers.<\/span><\/p>\n

For Hotaru<\/em>, the creator credits go to Inoue Harte, Alvarado-Dykstra, and N Lite\u2019s CEO Christiano Terry<\/strong>. The executive producers, apart from Ramsey, are Inoue Harte and Alvarado-Dykstra. Terry, who was among 11 startup founders featured in a paid advertorial piece<\/a> published on Anime News<\/a> Network, is producing.<\/span><\/p>\n

N LITE\u2019s Linkedin profile describes it as a \u201cmultimedia company that brings untapp<\/a>ed stories from the black & indigenous imagination to life for a diverse global community.\u201d In a statement reported by Variety, Ramsey said that he was \u201cexcited\u201d to work with the company \u201con a project that is deeply personal. The shared experiences of Black and Japanese people in Japan during WWII is a historical and cultural intersection that we\u2019ve not yet seen on screen. It\u2019s also an incredible time for anime<\/a> as a whole, and as a true lover of the medium, I\u2019m eager to create something that has never been done before.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ishikawa was reported as saying, \u201cAll of us at Gonzo are proud to partner with N Lite and Peter Ramsey on these bold new original projects. They were conceived as inclusive international co-productions for diverse global audiences, and N Lite is the perfect match given our shared vision and values. We are honored to attract such esteemed creative collaborators who share our commitment to innovative storytelling.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Last January, Anime News Network reported<\/a> that N LITE was producing the \u201cafro-anime\u201d film MFINDA<\/em>. Film distributor GKIDS<\/strong> later revealed<\/a> that the adventure title was a N LITE and Studio M2<\/strong> co-production, with Studio M2<\/strong> and MAPPA<\/strong> founder Masao Maruyama<\/strong> (also a Madhouse<\/strong> co-founder) on board as producer.<\/span><\/p>\n
