Deadline reports<\/a> that the live-action Gundam<\/em> film will now be directed and written by Jim Mickle<\/strong>, the showrunner of fantasy show Sweet Tooth<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Previously, Kong: Skull Island<\/em>\u2018s\u00a0Jordan Vogt-Roberts<\/strong> was tapp<\/a>ed to direct and produce with Y: The Last Man\u00a0<\/i>author\u00a0Brian K. Vaughan<\/strong> writing the script.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It was also reported that Mickle will co-produce the Gundam<\/em> film with partner Linda Moran<\/strong> via their company, and that production is planned to begin in early 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Another change for the Legendary<\/strong> and Bandai Namco Filmworks<\/strong> (then Sunrise<\/strong>) co-production is the absence of Netflix, who was supposed to stream the film worldwide (outside China).<\/span><\/p>\n

The movie was first announced in 2018, and a piece of concept art (the feature image for this article) was released in 2021.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first entry in the Gundam franchise was Mobile Suit Gundam<\/em>, which first aired in 1979. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino<\/strong>, Mobile Suit Gundam\u00a0<\/em>introduced viewers to the Universal Century timeline and mecha conflicts that were more grounded than Super Robot fare.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following Mobile Suit Gundam<\/em>, there have been multiple sequels, spin-offs, and later titles that share its fictional universe, as well as shows like Mobile Suit Gundam Wing<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Mobile Suit Gundam Seed<\/em> that have their own universes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Crunchyroll describes the original Mobile Suit Gundam<\/em>\u00a0anime<\/a> as:<\/span><\/p>\n

Universal Century 0079. The rebel space colonies of the Principality of Zeon launch a war of independence against the Earth Federation, using humanoid fighting vehicles called mobile suits to overwhelm the Federation Forces and conquer half of Earth\u2019s surface.
