\n Tom Hanks is happ<\/a>y to leave Forrest Gump<\/em> just how it is.<\/p>\n

\n The Oscar winner, who reteamed with his Forrest Gump<\/em>\u00a0co-star\u00a0Robin Wright and director\u00a0Robert Zemeckis\u00a0for their\u00a0new movie\u00a0Here<\/em>, recently told The New York Times<\/a><\/em> that he\u2019s thankful a sequel to the 1994 film was never made.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cIt is this extraordinary amalgam that stands completely on its own and never has to be repeated,\u201d he said of the movie. \u201cAnd thank God we never bothered trying to make another one. Why put a hat on a hat?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Forrest Gump<\/em>, which saw Hanks play the titular character, was based on late author\u00a0Winston Groom\u2018s 1986 novel. The film follows the life of Forrest Gump, an Alabama man with an IQ of 75 who yearns to be reunited with his childhood sweetheart, and his experiences from the 1950s to the 1970s<\/p>\n

\n While a sequel was never adapted for the big screen, Groom did publish a 1995 sequel,\u00a0Gump & Co.<\/em>, following the success of Forrest Gump<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n Hanks said on the\u00a0Happy Sad Confused\u00a0<\/em>podcast<\/a> in 2022 that they \u201cdid take a stab at talking about another\u00a0Forrest Gump<\/em>,\u201d however, it \u201clasted all of 40 minutes.\u201d He added, \u201cAnd then we never\u2026 we said, \u2018Guys, come on.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Elsewhere in his interview with the\u00a0Times<\/em>, the Asteroid City<\/em> actor added that he enjoys seeing how special the movie still is for people.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI still get letters all the time saying, every year the family gets together, we do what we did back in 1995, when it first came out on home video. We all watch it, from beginning to end,\u201d he said. \u201cRight now, someone is watching that movie from beginning to end somewhere in the world. And it\u2019s landing with that same sense of comfort and familiarity.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
