Every week, there would be a new <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of 8-bit avatars or AI-generated images sold for eye-watering amounts (occasionally millions). These digital tchotchkes were often hastily compiled derivatives of already-successful ventures, not only cribbing their aesthetics but copy-pasting code wholesale from other developers\u2019 work. But they sold out anyway, because investors believed the hype \u2014 or at least they could make a profit off someone else who actually did.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265415\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265408\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            I was reminded of this slightly surreal period of my life in the middle of a heaving mosh pit at Ken Carson\u2019s Cincinnati show in late October, my glasses fogging up as other people\u2019s sweat soaked into my clothing. To be sure, rage rap holds more artistic value than a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2021\/3\/11\/22325054\/beeple-christies-nft-sale-cost-everydays-69-million\">Beeple<\/a>, and Carson is one of the subgenre\u2019s most consistent practitioners; fall 2023\u2019s <i>A Great Chaos<\/i> notched new commercial and critical highs, and his live shows have evolved into gladiatorial spectacles as the size of his venues has swelled. Compared to his OPIUM labelmates \u2014 ever-elusive boss Playboi Carti, aura-depleted Destroy Lonely, and barely-there Homixide Gang \u2014 Ken has had an excellent year. This consistency (rather, his lack of <i>in<\/i>consistency) has turned him into the record label\u2019s defacto nucleus and, by extension, the face of rage in 2024.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Rage, the plugg-and-tread-derived strain of rap popularized by Carti&#8217;s urtext <i>Whole Lotta Red<\/i>, is a hyper-commodified scene, perched at the intersection of disaffected youth art and streaming <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/technology\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"4\" title=\"Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> and dressed in DHGate Rick Owens and $50 tour merch. Over the past four years, rage has gone from derided \u201cmumble rap\u201d offshoot to a populist style, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1JW1otIVLNI\">strip-mined<\/a> by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=rDG-6Ue_Qbw\">mainstream artists<\/a> and copycats (both <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2ow-9oyca40\">adept<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@druski\/video\/7097793421833751851\">inept<\/a>) hoping to carve out their own piece of the royalties. Factor in that even the best of this music sounds indistinguishable to the untrained ear \u2014 it\u2019s meant to be played <i>loud<\/i>, which further obliterates nuances \u2014 attempting to discern which rage songs are actually good, and not just \u201cnot bad,\u201d quickly begins to feel like shoveling through <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.investopedia.com\/terms\/s\/shitcoin.asp\">shitcoins<\/a>.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265411\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ken Carson - overseas (Official Music Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/80M6sAU9DY4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265416\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265409\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            In a different era, this might not affect Ken Carson at all, buoyed above the competition through a combination of sonic vision, practiced talent, and copious resources. Mired in the endless sludge of the attention economy, however, things are a little different. Right now, his only true peer is Yeat (Carti exists in a higher tier beside Young Thug and Travis Scott, while Destroy Lonely is soldiering through an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.complex.com\/music\/a\/tracewilliamcowen\/destroy-lonely-addresses-abuse-allegations-everybody-know\">ongoing domestic abuse case<\/a> and vicious fan backlash to <i>LOVE LASTS FOREVER<\/i>). But a plethora of up-and-coming artists are mutating rage into something harder (tdf; OsamaSon), weirder (d0llywood1; maajins), or simply more fun (prettifun; Mel V Chapo). Specialized to streaming niches like <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Darwin%27s_finches\">Darwin\u2019s finches<\/a>, they won\u2019t conquer Carson\u2019s fans en masse, but that still leaves the bread-and-butter OPIUM sound feeling formulaic or stale.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265414\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left pull_quote\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"pull_quote\"><p>\u201cAttempting to discern which rage songs are actually good, and not just \u2019not bad,\u2019 quickly begins to feel like shoveling through shitcoins.\u201d\n<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265413\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            This is a structural issue that only compounds when dissecting the live experience. On stage, Carson was an adequate showman, half-screaming over backing vocals as he bounced around the stage, though I presume he would be more locked in if you caught him at a larger tour stop. The mosh pit was vigorous enough, though it\u2019s hard to say the crowd was more excited by Carson performing \u201cFighting My Demons\u201d than the pre-show DJ spinning \u201cH00DBYAIR\u201d and \u201cLocation\u201d (OPIUM tours gotta be the easiest opening gig in the world). It might be more accurate to characterize the crowd as \u201cenergetic\u201d than \u201cengaged,\u201d an indicator of the role this music fills in their lives: It\u2019s a soundtrack for Epic Moments and Instagram slideshow dumps; they paid money to see Carson, but sonics matter less than the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> milieu.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Which is fine, if a little dispiriting. It\u2019s not like the party is ending anytime soon: In fact, rage has never been bigger. Yeat just scored a Billboard no. 1 for his \u201cmost polished\u201d album yet, <i>LYFESTYLE<\/i>, and Carti netted an eye-watering 44 million streams in just one week with his September single \u201cALL RED.\u201d Despite my personal fatigue and broader cultural indicators (Carti\u2019s run of January singles swung back towards Atlanta trap and plugg), I wouldn\u2019t go so far as to prognosticate the \u201dend of rage\u201d any time soon.
