\n Mel Winkler, a character actor with numerous TV, film and stage credits as well as being a recognizable voice behind characters on the animated series<\/a> \u201cThe New Batman Adventures\u201d and \u201cOswald,\u201d died in his sleep of unknown causes today at his home in Hollywood. He was 78.<\/p>\n

His death was announced by family spokesperson Courtney Benson.<\/p>\n

Winkler made his Broadway stage debut in 1968\u2019s \u201cThe Great White Hope,\u201d app<\/a>earing in several productions thereafter before taking the role of Seth Holly in 1988\u2019s \u201cJoe Turner\u2019s Come And Gone\u201d by August Wilson. His final Broadway role was in 1997\u2019s \u201cProposals,\u201d written by Neil Simon and directed by Joe Mantello.<\/p>\n

Winkler appeared in such films as \u201cDoc Hollywood\u201d (1991), \u201cAll The Right Moves\u201d (1983) and \u201cDevil In A Blue Dress\u201d (1995). After a 1969 stint on daytime\u2019s \u201cThe Doctors,\u201d he appeared steadily in episodic TV roles from the 1970s through the early 2000s, including such series as \u201cThe Cosby Show,\u201d \u201cThe Young Riders,\u201d \u201cLois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,\u201d \u201cStar Trek: Voyager,\u201d \u201cTouched By An Angel,\u201d \u201cNYPD Blue,\u201d \u201cThe Hughleys\u201d and \u201cThe Shield.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a voice actor, Winkler played Lucius Fox in \u201cThe New Batman Adventures\u201d (1997) and Johnny Snowman in \u201cOswald\u201d (2001). He voiced the guardian mask Aku Aku in the \u201cCrash Bandicoot\u201d series of video game<\/a>s in the early 2000s.<\/p>\n

Born in St Louis, Missouri, Winkler is survived by sons Maury and Mark, and four granddaughters.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
