the past couple of months, Chris Taylor has been busy \u201cmaking tracks\u201d about naptime and baby clothes. According to the Body Meat producer, he\u2019s been coming up with material almost every day, like a recent jingle about trying to wrangle his infant son into a onesie and a constantly evolving song dedicated to \u201ctummy time.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265557\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265539\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            \u201cYou know we&#8217;re going to be making a whole new tummy time track,\u201d the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DAofw-my7TY\/?hl=en&amp;img_index=1\">proud new father<\/a> says, chuckling, adding that his son is particularly amused by these ditties. Taylor recalls the way the baby would fervently kick his wife\u2019s belly while listening to Taylor\u2019s album, <i><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/bodymeat.bandcamp.com\/album\/starchris\">Starchris<\/a><\/i>, in the womb. He\u2019s still unsure, but I reassure him that all signs point toward his son already being a fan.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            When I initially spoke to the experimental club producer and video game designer in August about <i>Starchris<\/i>, his full-length debut that\u2019s out now, he was reluctant to share too many specifics about its story. As Taylor explains, the record is meant to feel \u201cever-changing,\u201d with its dueling polyrhythms and clashing sonics reflecting a party of four archetypal characters that exist within Taylor \u2014 The Black Mage, The Warrior, The Healer, and The Thief \u2014 collectively known as \u201cStarchris.\u201d Across its songs, the foursome \u2014 who are featured on the album art \u2014 tackle the type of traumatic baggage that \u201ceveryone has to fight through [and] holds them back from something.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cI think each of these characters has that within them, whether it be extreme anxiety, extreme depression, a physical ailment, hunger, not being able to sleep, lack of money,\u201d Taylor says.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            He says nothing about the record\u2019s narrative is concrete as <i>Starchris<\/i> mirrors \u201cplayer\u2019s choice\u201d games, a design concept that encourages gamer autonomy and often results in unexpected consequences or side quests. There is \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=buB3xcL5LBA\">Electrische<\/a>,\u201d with its moments of anxious exploration that fade into the scrambled syncopated melody of \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/bodymeat.bandcamp.com\/track\/focus-2\">Focus<\/a>.\u201d There\u2019s the shape-shifting climax \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/bodymeat.bandcamp.com\/track\/crystalize\">Crystalize<\/a>,\u201d which Taylor says is a \u201cculmination of everything that I&#8217;ve done, using every production technique I&#8217;ve ever known.\u201d By the end, it\u2019s clear that <i>Starchris<\/i> contains a story that adheres to the traditional narrative arc used by writers, featuring a \u201cdark night of the soul\u201d followed by a profound moment of revelation that culminates in the melismatic oasis that is the album\u2019s final track, \u201cParadise.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265546\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left pull_quote\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"pull_quote\"><p>\u201cI think each of these characters has [traumatic baggage] within them, whether it be extreme anxiety, extreme depression, a physical ailment, hunger, not being able to sleep, lack of money.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265542\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            \u201cIt&#8217;s all of this energy throughout my life\u2026 coming together to be this one thing,\u201d Taylor says of \u201cParadise,\u201d adding that \u201cwhen people ask what [that song is about], I&#8217;m like, \u2018It&#8217;s the idea for this record. I\u2019m trying to utilize every part of me\u2019\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            When he started working on <i>Starchris<\/i> three years ago, Taylor didn\u2019t realize it was a subconscious manifestation in many ways, one that would \u201ccompletely, unintentionally\u201d culminate in releasing <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_new\" href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/reviews\/albums\/body-meat-starchris\/\">a critically acclaimed debut record<\/a>, becoming a father, and finding peace with his family and a newfound purpose at the same time. He\u2019d finally reached the goal he set out to achieve when he \u201cwanted there to be this thing that felt like I was at peace\u201d \u2014 the notion embodied by the airy exaltation of \u201cParadise.\u201d\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            \u201cIt\u2019s this beautiful feeling; this is where I wanted to get to,\u201d Taylor beams.
