Weird Exhibition: Welcome to the Wired<\/em>, the VR exhibition for the 1998 anime<\/a> Serial Experiments Lain<\/em>, has opened its virtual doors again. Those interested can access it through the free-to-play platform VRChat<\/em> on PC, Meta Quest, or Android devices from November 29, 5PM JST to January 19, 11:59 PM JST (a VR headset is not required).<\/span><\/p>\n

Along with the exhibition, organizer Anique<\/strong> and NBCUniversal Japan are releasing a number of \u201climited-edition collectibles,\u201d which will be available through GONKBONK<\/a> in the US. These can be pre-ordered online (from November 29 to January 19) or at the SF Fan Expo\u2019s booth #700 (from November 29 to December 1).\u00a0The collectibles include:<\/span><\/p>\n

All items are listed as \u201cavailable for pre-order\u201d in the press release, while the t-shirt is also \u201cavailable at Fan Expo.\u201d Pre-orders are expected to be fulfilled in spring 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n

Weird Exhibition: Welcome to the Wired\u00a0<\/em>had its first official opening in June of this year, with new exhibits being added in July. Anique, which counts the development of \u201cdigital collectibles using blockchain technology<\/a>\u201d among its undertakings, previously teamed up with Kasagi<\/strong> for the Serial Experiments Lain<\/em> alternate reality game<\/a> Layer 3301: De-Cipher<\/i>. It also hosted an AI \u201cinteractive service\u201d called AI lain<\/em> from September 2023 to March 2024, which was meant to allow users to have \u201cvideo calls with Lain, where she will respond with her \u2018real voice.\u2019\u200d\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Serial Experiments Lain\u00a0<\/em>is a surreal science<\/a> fiction TV anime directed by Ryutarou Nakamura <\/b>(Kino\u2019s Journey\u00a0<\/i>2003,\u00a0Ghost Hound<\/i>) at TRIANGLE STAFF<\/b> with\u00a0Takahiro Kishida\u00a0<\/b>(Puella Magi Madoka Magica<\/i>,\u00a0Haikyu<\/i>!!<\/i>) as character designer and\u00a0Chiaki Konaka<\/b>\u00a0(Digimon Tamers<\/i>,\u00a0Ghost Hound<\/i>) as series<\/a> composer. Crunchyroll describes the series as:<\/span><\/p>\n

Acclaimed artist Yoshitoshi Abe (Haibane Renmei, Texhnolyze) brings to life the existential classic that paved the way for blockbuster films such as The Matrix.\u00a0 Follow along as fourteen year old Lain\u2014driven by the abrupt suicide of a classmate\u2014logs on to the Wired and promptly looses herself in a twisted mass of hallucinations, memories, and interconnected-psyches.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
