It is called the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chromium.org\/developers\/design-documents\/site-engagement\/\">Chrome site engagement services<\/a> and it primarily scores the websites by how much time you spend on them, but it also uses other engagement metrics, such as clicks.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Petrovic spotted this and <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/dejan.ai\/blog\/site-engagement-metrics\/\">wrote<\/a>, \u201cGoogle\u00a0Site Engagement Metrics Framework\u00a0plays a crucial role in assessing and analyzing user engagement with websites. This framework leverages detailed metrics, such as user interactions and engagement scores, to provide insights into browsing behavior. Here\u2019s a breakdown of how this system works, based on the Site Engagement Metrics implementation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What Google says. <\/strong>This is not something specifically new, this has been around <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20160901000000*\/https:\/\/www.chromium.org\/developers\/design-documents\/site-engagement\/\">since 2016<\/a>, where Google <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chromium.org\/developers\/design-documents\/site-engagement\/\">wrote<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cThe Site Engagement Service provides information about how engaged a user is with a site. The primary signal is the amount of active time the user spends on the site but various other signals may be incorporated (e.g whether a site is added to the homescreen).\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Google also explained what engagement is:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cEngagement is an even more nebulous term. We want to track that the user is giving some amount of active attention to the site. To <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roximate this, we register a user as active when the user scrolls, clicks or types on the page. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> playback also provides a small engagement increase.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>What it looks like.  <\/strong>You can try it yourself, just by copying and pasting chrome:\/\/site-engagement\/ into your Chrome browser bar. Many would assume they do but Google might deny it.
