class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            There is a crispness to Colle\u2019s <i>Montalvo<\/i> that has brought me back to it on an almost daily basis since it was released in November. The debut album from Maya McGrory, who is also a part of the experimental New York group Chanel Beads alongside Shane Lavers, never feels busy or overcomplicated, with the ambient, synth-led pop songs given room to breathe and feel in real time. Putting it on has become a morning staple for me, like cracking a window and letting a refreshingly icy breeze cut through the morning fog.\n          <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265993\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265980\" class=\"content_block paragraph embed triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 350px; height: 470px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=1750965889\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=2ebd35\/tracklist=false\/transparent=true\/\" seamless><a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/c0ll3.bandcamp.com\/album\/montalvo-tru008\">Montalvo [TRU008] by Colle<\/a><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-265981\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>\n            Some of the songs have a romantic hue, such as on \u201cGreen Edge\u201d when McGrory sings \u201cIt\u2019s all for you, I don\u2019t deny it.\u201d A similar message of commitment and sacrifice is repeated on \u201cWinter Garden,\u201d one of the darker songs on the album in which the production is nodding to the kind of digital rot dredged up by Oneohtrix Point Never. These songs, though clearly underpinned by longing and some distress, all float with a preternatural sense of calm.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            McGrory cites childhood as a catalyst for her songs, and this retrospective view  is matched by a production style that also often looks to the past for inspiration. <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trip<\/a>-hop drums usher in both \u201cDay You Told Me\u201d and \u201cHeld By You,\u201d the latter bleeding rough guitar noise deep into the mix to add a few pleasing bumps to the sleekness that acts as its dominant shape.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            Elsewhere on <i>Montalvo<\/i>, McGrory taps into something far more prescient. At many points throughout the album\u2019s 28-minute runtime she sounds like she could be a distant cousin of Mica Levi or the burgeoning collective of artists currently pushing the limits of dream pop in Copenhagen. A shimmering song like \u201cAwait for Love,\u201d part rustic, part alien, would fit perfectly on a playlist alongside the similarly uncanny ML Buch and Astrid Sonne.\n          <\/p>\n<p>\n            If you only listen to one <i>Montalvo<\/i> song, though, make it \u201cA Real Atone.\u201d It\u2019s placed toward the end of the album but stands clear as the perfect distillation of what Colle is reaching for here. The guitars on the song have an almost chopped and screwed effect on them, warped strums that coil their way around McGrory as she sings. In one of the most cleanly delivered vocals on the album, the words \u201cI still believe\u201d emerge fully formed.
