\n BUFFALO \u2014 Chili Davis has spent the season at home in Arizona working remotely, a choice the Mets hitting coach doesn\u2019t regret.<\/p>\n

After a Mets player and coach tested positive for COVID-19 in Miami three weeks ago, the 60-year-old Davis \u2014 who has a pre-existing condition that places him in the \u201chigh risk\u201d category if he were to contract the virus \u2014 considered himself fortunate to be separated from the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think about if that had been me, where would I be right now, being a high-risk person,\u201d Davis told The Post on Thursday. \u201cI think I made the right decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis said his biggest concern as he weighed the possibility of joining the team this season was travel<\/a>ing to cities such as Miami and Atlanta, where rates of positive tests were high.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo I miss being there? Yeah, I do,\u201d Davis said. \u201cI didn\u2019t sign up to work from home. I talk to the guys a lot, I do meetings with them and I am looking at pitchers all the time, staffs and I do the advance meetings with them via Zoom. But it\u2019s not the same as being there and hands on, walking up to a guy and talking to him or have somebody come to you and be able to discuss what they are feeling and what the need to work on.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing on the bench is one of the things I miss. Being able to be involved in the game<\/a> that way, personally, but at the end of the day, I think I made the right decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

These three games at Sahlen Field will be a homecoming of sorts for Jeurys Familia and pitching coach Jeremy Hefner, as both pitched for the Mets\u2019 Triple-A affiliate in Buffalo in 2012. The team was relocated to Las Vegas the following season.<\/p>\n

Jacob deGrom will be making his first career start against the Blue Jays. The right-hander entered Thursday leading the NL with a 1.69 ERA. The Indians\u2019 Shane Bieber led MLB with a 1.25 ERA.\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
