\n A planned military flyover in the Big App<\/a>le to mark the 9\/11 attack of jets crashing into the Twin Towers is being slammed as \u201ctone-deaf\u201d and \u201ccompletely tasteless.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officials announced late Thursday that an F-18 jet would be flying 2,500 feet over the Hudson River toward the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge at 3:30 p.m. \u2014 hours after other official tributes.<\/p>\n

It was quickly ripped as being the worst possible tribute given the nature of the Sept. 11 airborne terror attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you out of your mind? Cancel this immediately,\u201d Staten Island Rep. Max Rose demanded on Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mayor Bill de Blasio\u2019s office told the Staten Island Advance that he \u201cwasn\u2019t aware of the flyover.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFrankly it\u2019s inappropriate,\u201d a spokesman told the paper.<\/p>\n

The initial alert from New York City Emergency Management\u2019s Notify NYC sparked a huge backlash on Twitter \u2014 with the social media giant\u2019s own vice president of Global Communications, Brandon Borrman, called it a \u201creally bad idea, verging on completely tasteless.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe all remember not only the original hijacked planes but also the fighter jets on 09\/11. This is literally like tearing open a closed scar until it bleeds again just so you can throw some salt on it,\u201d @nycinoc said.<\/p>\n

Michael Henry called it a \u201ccrappy idea,\u201d writing, \u201cLet\u2019s re-create the gut punching memory of a low-flying plane over the harbor.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCould you get any more tone deaf?\u201d @Qasharah asked. \u201cPTSD is real, and this will definitely trigger some people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSure. Let\u2019s terrorize New Yorkers on the anniversary of 9\/11,\u201d Camille Duran wrote.<\/p>\n

Someone named Kathy D, meanwhile, wrote, \u201cThis is the dumbest and most insensitive thing I have ever heard and this year, I have heard a LOT of dumb things.\u201d<\/p>\n
